United States Senator JD Vance recently addressed his "childless cat ladies" comment after it received backlash from Jennifer Aniston. In his remark made in 2021, Vance referred to Democratic politicians and said that the country is run by a "bunch of childless cat ladies with miserable lives."
Jennifer Aniston reacted to the US senator's statement via her Instagram story on July 26, 2024, stating:
"All I can say is... Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her too"
This led to Vance seemingly addressing Aniston's comment in his interview on the Megyn Kelly Show on July 26, 2024, wherein he mentioned:
"You have Hollywood celebrities saying, 'Oh well, JD Vance, what if your daughter suffered fertility problems?' Well, first of all, that's disgusting because my daughter is 2 years old and second of all if she had fertility problems, as I said in that speech, I would do everything I could to try to help her because I believe families and babies are a good thing."
Jennifer Aniston has previously spoken about her struggles with IVF and fertility in her interviews with E! Online and Allure. Additionally, her Instagram story also mentioned that she couldn't believe such a statement came from a "potential VP of the United States".
"I'm sorry, it's true"- JD Vance defends his statement on the Megyn Kelly Show
The original interview in which JD Vance gave the "childless cat ladies" comment occurred in 2021 with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. In the interview, Vance answered a question on why some of the leading politicians didn't have children and he named Kamala Harris in his answer stating the "entire future of Democrats is controlled by people without children."
Vance continued his statement and told Tucker Carlson that it doesn't make any sense that the people of the United States have their country over to people who don't have a direct stake in it hinting at Kamala Harris.
The interview and statement from 2021 resurfaced recently owing to JD Vance being chosen as Donald Trump's running mate for the 2024 Presidential elections. In his latest interview with Megyn Kelly, Vance defended his statement and told the host that his statement was sarcastic and people were focusing on the sarcasm instead of the substance of what he said.
JD Vance told Megyn Kelly:
"The substance of what I said, Megyn - I'm sorry, it's true."
He defended his statement and clarified his stance stating that he aimed to criticize the Democratic Party for becoming anti-children and anti-family. Vance also said that his statement indicated that becoming a parent changes one's perspective in a "pretty profound way". The US senator said that he was making an argument for the entire society which has become sceptical toward the idea of having children.
Apart from responding to Jennifer Aniston's comment on his daughter, JD Vance also talked about how the media has been attacking him on a statement that he gave years ago. However, Vance stuck to his anti-abortion agenda and said that they "cannot give up an inch on this".
