For DC lovers, there's good news as the writer Mattson Tomlin disclosed in an interview with Screenrant that The Batman 2 has gotten the go-ahead for filming and will start shooting in 2025. The superhero fans were clamoring for more from the franchise after the recent release of Batman: Caped Crusader on Prime Video and this update is definitely a breather.
While The Batman 2 was slated to release on October 3, 2025, it got delayed because of strikes and scripting delays, which left fans in dismay. However, after Gunn took over DC in October 2022, he hinted at The Batman 2 and also confirmed that the script was getting ready soon.
Mattson Tomlin revealed new news about The Batman 2
Mattson Tomlin talked about the script of The Batman 2 and also provided other updates regarding the film and its status. In an interview with Screenrant, Tomlin who will be writing the script alongside Matt Reeves for The Batman 2, originally came to talk about his upcoming series Terminator Zero, which is coming to Netflix on August 29, 2024.
The American writer and filmmaker revealed that the filming will start in 2026. Matt Reeves will be directing the film and Robert Pattinson will return as the Dark Night yet again to win several hearts. Other cast members have not been confirmed to date. The Batman sequel is expected to hit the big screens on October 2, 2026, provided there are no further delays in production or filming.
Here is what Tomlin told Screenrant -
"It's shooting next year. We're gearing up, and I will say that the bar just couldn't be higher. It's the sequel to the first one...."
Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as the titular superhero as per reports. Other than Pattison, no other cast members have been confirmed. However, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dono as The Riddler, and Barry Keoghan are expected to return among others.
Earlier, James Gunn had revealed to his fans on Threads that the script of the film would only be ready when-
"Matt thinks it’s ready!”
Mattson Tomlin also praised his co-writer in the same interview recently and told Screenrant that-
"....Matt is like no other. In the five years now that I've been working with him as closely as I have, I've tried to absorb as much as humanly possible from him, and I'm so grateful for the time that I get to spend with him, because he is a true artist ..... I'm psyched for the movie."
What to expect from Batman 2?
The Batman 2 will be a direct sequel to The Batman. Meanwhile, The Penguin, which is slated to release on September 19, 2024, with a total of eight episodes will continue the Batman saga and will take place one week after the events of The Batman.
While there is no trailer and no plot details about the upcoming film, viewers can expect the film to explore Gotham City and continue Bruce Wayne's journey after the events of the first film, a new villain, or multiple villains like Thomas Elliot aka Hush, or the Riddler.
