The characters confront their motivations through the plot of the film. Macey tries to maintain a sense of control, while Savanna embraces a more reckless approach. Their relationship leads to moments of both comedy and reflection. Ultimately, the film explores themes of family loyalty, greed, and the often ridiculous nature of familial bonds through bleak comedy.

Signature Entertainment released the film on November 4, 2022. Dean Craig is the writer and director of The Estate. Craig is an English screenwriter and director known for films such as Death at a Funeral, Love, Wedding, Repeat, and The Honeymoon.

Who becomes rich at the end of The Estate?

By the film's end, the reading of Aunt Hilda's will discloses that she had been living beyond her means. A twist occurs when Aunt Hilda bequeaths Macey a painting titled "Dog." Initially, the value of the painting is unknown, and Macey, along with Savannah, contemplates getting rid of it.

However, a crucial moment arises when Macey finds an appraisal letter hidden in the painting that reveals its true worth: four million dollars. This unexpected discovery transforms their fortunes, providing Macey and Savannah with a significant financial asset. So, Macey (Collett) and Savanna (Farris) gain wealth by the end of the estate, but not in the manner that they expected.

What happens to Aunt Hilda's estate?

Aunt Hilda's estate is the focal point of conflict among her relatives as they compete for her fortune. As the story unfolds, Aunt Hilda's health deteriorates, and her family members resort to increasingly desperate measures to win her favor and ensure they are included in her will.

However, during the will reading, the cousins are shocked to learn that Aunt Hilda had been living in financial disarray. She owed a considerable amount in taxes and had failed to pay her debts on time. This had significantly diminished the value of her estate. After settling her financial obligations, the estate had a meager net worth. Thus the relatives’ efforts to secure wealth became futile, as no wealth was left for them.
