What is the story of Christina in The Girl Who Got Away?

The Girl Who Got Away starts with a man and his son driving a truck on a dark road at night. Suddenly, they see a woman in a white gown that is stained with blood. The man felt that it wouldn't be a wise decision to stop, so he kept driving, thinking of calling the police when they reached their destination.

However, they soon encounter a little girl running away from something, and the man stops his truck. He begins searching for her in the darkness when the woman with the knife attacks him. As the man knocks the woman down, he calls the police, who rescue the young girl. He introduces her as Christina to them.

Twenty years later, Christina, who has grown up, is working as a teacher in a local school and wants to move to Florida for a new start to her life. She is the only survivor of the five girls kidnapped by a serial killer twenty years ago.

She grew up trying to beat the memories of her gruesome past and eventually made new friends, who truly loved and cherished her presence. However, somewhere, parts of her memories were still in the woods. She planned to adopt a teenage kid named Lisa to give her life a new purpose.

Soon, however, her life takes a sharp turn when her abductor, Elizabeth, runs away from prison and goes on a killing spree. Jamie Nwosu, a local cop, is put in charge of the case and soon starts to notice a pattern in Elizabeth's killings.

However, his fellow retired cop, Gerry Bailey, advises him not to call the feds, as this will gain a lot of attention and create panic among people.

Everyone close to Christina after her escape starts to get murdered. Christina's foster parents, Eileen and Terry Caldwell, are butchered on the bed. Finally, when Christina's ex-boyfriend Tom Foster is found dead, Jamie's suspicions shift to Christina, because Elizabeth had gone to prison long before Christina came. Jamie also noticed that Christina had been sleepwalking and he found her every morning sleeping on the floor with mud and blood in her fingernails.

This opened up an entire dimension of possibilities.

Jamie begins to realize that there is something deeply wrong with his investigation and starts to rethink the entire case again. Lisa goes missing and Christina goes back to the church where she was imprisoned as a child, thinking Elizabeth must have taken her. However, when she arrives there, she finds the dead body of the boy Lisa had been with, his throat slashed.

Christina quickly runs out, and in a flashback, the viewers see what truly happened to those five girls. Elizabeth had not five but six girls with her, as the sixth one was her daughter, Katie Claufield.

Katie was born as the result of an affair between Elizabeth and Gerry Bailey, the police officer in charge of the case, 20 years ago. This was also why Gerry didn't want the case to get much public attention.

After Elizabeth got pregnant, Gerry soon abandoned her, and she went to stay in the woods. Since Katie was her only daughter, she wanted siblings, leading to her mother abducting little girls, starting in 1998.

Each girl was a year older than the previous one, matching Katie's growing age, and the previous one was being slaughtered. The viewers are made to believe from the beginning of the film that Christina Bowden was the only girl who managed to escape Elizabeth's facility. However, the true story was entirely different.

Katie and Christina, while living together, became very close friends, and they decided to run away together. However, Elizabeth caught and killed Christina. It was Katie who could run away, and the little girl that is shown at the beginning of the movie is Katie Claufield.

After Elizabeth got arrested and sent to prison, Katie took Christina's name and started creating a life around her. She was arrested for assault as a teenager, and then the final secret is revealed that pulls apart the entire curtain of mystery. Christina (or Katie) had always been in touch with her mother, and they exchanged letters with each other.

Elizabeth knew everything about Katie's life, and when she escaped, she went on a killing spree to end the lives of anyone her daughter had issues with. Katie went to Elizabeth's house to make her stop killings, but that went out of hand. She also has a flashback and sees all the bad memories from the past.

Jamie arrives at the point and shows Katie the body of a little girl, frozen in the woods. To her shock and dismay, it turns out to be Lisa, who shatters her down completely. Katie then starts to realize the consequences of her actions. She decides to stop her mother before she takes away more of her loved ones.

While Katie and Jamie try to rush back, knowing where Elizabeth could go next, they are already late. Elizabeth soon enters Bailey's home, reminding Gerry and his wife Arlene of when they threw her and her child out.

She kills both of them ruthlessly and then starts to climb up the stairs. Gerry's daughter Amy is pregnant, and Elizabeth ruthlessly stabs her and takes away her baby.

Soon after Jamie and Katie reach the scene, and find Amy lying on the floor with an open wound. Although they believed they were alone in the house, Katie knew her mother was there hiding in the shadows, and now must confront the past she had been running away from for so long.

Elizabeth comes out of the dark, with Amy's newborn baby, covered in blood. She hands the baby to Katie as a gift and orders her to thank her. She cuts Katie's chin for not being thankful enough for all the efforts her mother has made for her, since childhood.

Katie goes closer to Elizabeth, hugs her slowly, and then suddenly stabs her in the back. While Elizabeth is there, lying on the ground, Katie says was never like her mother, and unlike her, she knew how to love people.

This is the point when Katie finally becomes Christina, leaving her past behind. She takes Amy's baby and is about to leave the house when Elizabeth remerges on the way to kill them both. Jamie arrives and shoots Elizabeth dead.

The movie ends with Katie, finally becoming Christina sitting before a crime scene, filled with police and ambulances. The scene is reminiscent of the day Katie was saved as a child.

Katie has finally redeemed her past, knowing that it was her mother's lunacy that had killed the five innocent girls. She finally decides to start a new life, carrying the sacrifices that her sisters had made, for her to get this new chance. Amy's baby provides Christina (or Katie) with a new opportunity for redemption.
