The Infiltrator is a 2016 American biographical crime drama by Brad Furman and written by his mother Ellen Brown Furman. Set in the rough world of drug cartels and undercover agents in the 1980s, the movie follows U.S. Customs agent Robert Mazur. He goes undercover as “Bob Musella” to expose the money-laundering operations of drug lord Pablo Escobar.
Mazur gets high-ranking cartel members to trust him by using a complicated web of lies, which helps bring down Escobar's financial empire and exposes fraud in the banking system. The story shows how dangerous and morally tough it is to work as a spy.
The cast is led by Bryan Cranston as Robert Mazur, delivering a powerful portrayal of the determined agent. Diane Kruger stars as fellow undercover agent Kathy Ertz, while John Leguizamo brings energy as Mazur’s partner, Emir Abreu. Benjamin Bratt plays the suave cartel contact Roberto Alcaino, while Amy Ryan appears as Mazur’s supportive wife, Evelyn.
