After amassing a positive reception globally with the first film, holding an approval rating of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, it was only a matter of time before The Platform 2 or El Hoyo 2 (in Spanish) was green-lit.
The sequel was reported to be in the discussions, shortly after the success of the first film, with Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia set to return once again to direct the follow-up installment. David Desola and Pedro Rivero will also be returning to pen the scripts alongside Gaztelu-Urrutia and a new addition, Egoitz Moreno. The Platform 2 is scheduled for release on October 4, 2024.

The Platform 2 will be making its worldwide debut on October 4, 2024. After five years since the first movie was released, the sequel will return to the mysterious tower: Vertical Self-Management Center, aka The Pit.
Given the amount of positive reception the first film was lauded with, the sequel also has similar expectations, and fans globally are looking forward to it.
The first film was released in 2019, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing much-needed relief to the world through entertainment for the homebound audience.

Basque Films, the company behind the film, revealed that The Platform had been watched by 56 million households during the release month, creating an unanticipated milestone that no one saw coming.
After the second film got green-lit, Gaztelu-Urrutia expressed his excitement in an interview with Cinemania:
"We started filming the film full of enthusiasm, wanting to expand the universe of El hoyo with a plot full of surprises, obstacles, new characters... and old friends," the filmmaker said for Netflix.
He further said:
"We want this second installment to be an exciting physical journey that allows us to delve into the darkness, into that place where we are afraid to look."

The Platform 2 will ultimately be released on Netflix, given the streamer holds exclusive rights to the franchise. With that, it is clear that neither the sequel nor the previous installment will be available on any other OTT giants except Netflix. The first film was dropped on Netflix globally, including in Spain, on March 20, 2020.
