The Predator, a Shane Black film and 2018 release, has been revived on both Disney + and Apple TV + and is trending in the USA. Here, the movie breathes new life into the epic Predators franchise by developing its mythology and introducing new components to the age-old human vs. alien struggle.

With a new story and old faces, the movie injects some new elements of space into the lore while exploring themes of survival and evolution.

In this film, U.S. Army Ranger sniper Quinn McKenna and his team get ambushed by an alien during a mission. Quinn makes the alien go into incapacitation and sends parts of its armor back to Earth, sending hard evidence to prove that aliens exist; this catches the attention of the government agent Will Traeger, who captures both Quinn and the alien for a secret investigation.

Quinn, Nebraska, and Nettles survive an alien attack, but Nettles dies, and Nebraska sacrifices himself to disable the aliens' ship. With Bracket's help, Quinn kills the creature, honoring their fallen comrades.

At the film's end, Quinn and his son Rory find advanced Predator technology in a government lab, with a Predator killer suit, which points to possible upcoming battles and future sequels.

Why does the Predator target Rory?

The Predator perceives Rory's superior cognitive ability, specifically his autism, as a matter of evolutionary advantage that can be used to improve their own race.

That he is able to comprehend Predator technology at such an early age is shown to be something far beyond human capabilities. This makes him an object of a special target for the alien, who perceives Rory as an integral part in its genetic hybridization mission.

The kidnapping of Rory underlines the deeper theme that runs in the film, that being evolution and survival of the fittest. In the case of the Predator, it is not about technology itself but about adapting and upgrading itself with the best qualities found in other species, including humanity.

The result is that it lends a deeper dimension to the Predator's motivation and links well into the overall consideration of genetic superiority within the movie.

The assimilation of human DNA into the genetic structure of the Predator is an interesting twist in the mythology of the series. This suggests that the aliens are not merely creature hunters of other species but are instead avidly trying to evolve by taking characteristics that would help them survive their own prey.

Such hybridization is done for a greater purpose, such as creating stronger and more resilient Predators who will be able to face even more lethal foes in the future.

This plot element elevates the conflict from simple predator-prey dynamics and portends a greater cosmic order wherein species are linked. The scenario viewing humans as part of the evolutionary line opens up questions about the potential future for each species but also raises interesting questions about the ethical implications of such genetic tampering.

What is the significance of the Predator killer suit?

The killer suit that the Predator reveals at the film's end gives one an insight as to how humanity may be used in protecting it from other extraterrestrial forms in the future. This sophisticated technology is meant to ensure that men have a fighting chance against the aliens, and hence, it symbolizes the war between Earth and these alien species in various dimensions.

From Quinn's willingness to put on the suit, it's evident that the dynamics have shifted to empower humans with a set of tools they need to act against superior beings. Still, bringing such a strong suit into an ecosystem brings ethical questions regarding its use because of alien technology.

While it may be necessary for defense reasons, it can also open up the possibility of misuse. This sets up a conflict in later movies, where the question of whether human society can handle such power becomes a central issue.

The Predator is currently streaming on Disney+ and Apple TV+.
