Monji’s tragic fate
Monji, the young boy whom 13 tries to save, represents more than just an innocent victim. As she explores his world, 13 learns that his mother was killed by a gang connected to a man named Haga. When Monji disappears, 13's quest to find him becomes the core of her journey. Eventually, she learns that Ariel, the son of a political figure, is behind Monji's suffering. Ariel, trying to cover his past crimes, kidnaps Monji and brutally beats him.
13 tries to protect Monji, but his fate is already set. He dies while being held captive, intensifying her thirst for revenge. This moment of The Shadow Strays is very important, as it forces her to face the people who caused the pain she saw.
Ariel and Soemitro’s downfall
When Ariel finds out that Monji has died, 13, who sets up a lot of the movie's problems, gets angry. It is revealed that Ariel killed Monji's mother, leading 13 to start looking for justice. Since Soemitro, Ariel's dad, sees a chance to use her skills, he makes a deal with her: she can be his bodyguard in exchange for keeping Monji safe.
