The Tearsmith ending: Do Rigel and Nica have a kid?

The Tearsmith ends with an emotional scene in which Nica and Rigel finally accept that they have feelings for each other. After a night filled with emotional closeness, they get connected the next morning.

The film jumps ahead to the future, where Nica and Rigel are still together and have a daughter, reflecting on their enduring love and the family that they have built. This ending wraps up their love story that started in the Sunnycreek Orphanage, displaying how they battled their disturbed pasts to find joy in being together.

The Tearsmith ending explained

After giving a brave statement against Margaret, the abusive orphanage headmistress, Nica walks home with Rigel. Their fleeting moment of relief is cut short when a classmate tries to scare them by driving his car in their direction because he is attracted to Nica.

Rigel and Nica dive off a bridge into a river to avoid the speeding car, with Rigel stopping Nica's fall into the water. Unfortunately, it turns out that Rigel's benign tumors, or brain neuromas, caused him to fall into a coma. Nica's steadfast loyalty to Rigel can be seen by her daily visits to the hospital, where she stays by his side as he fights for his way out of his coma.

Rigel wakes up from his coma after Nica tells him she loves him and tears fall from her eyes. She speaks of him as her "tearsmith," as he is the only one able to make her cry while experiencing all of her feelings at once.

What happens to Rigel in The Tearsmith?

Rigel and Nica's stories are inseparable in the film The Tearsmith. They meet at the Sunnycreek Orphanage, where Margaret physically and emotionally abuses Nica. Rigel is smart, plays piano well, and has an edge over the other children in the orphanage. He is the only orphan whom Margaret does not abuse, making him unpopular.

Nica and Rigel are eventually adopted by a couple named Anna and Norman Milligan, who are also curious about Rigel. Despite what they have in common, Rigel at first declines Nica's efforts to establish a rapport with him, pushing her away and warning her to avoid him.

The story reveals Rigel's strong feelings for Nica, but he fights to convey them due to traumatic events from the past. He believes that he is a monster unfit for love, which Margaret planted in him.

Actor and singer Simone Baldasseroni aka Biondo plays Rigel, meanwhile, Caterina Ferioli takes on the role of Nica.

The Tearsmith is available to stream on Netflix.
