Don't Move, the Netflix thriller which dropped on the platform on October 25, 2024, has7 received mixed reactions from the audience. The movie is jointly directed by Brian Netto and Adam Schindler, based on a screenplay written by David White and TJ Cimfel.
The story of Don't Move revolves around a depressed mother Iris, mourning over the accidental death of her son Mateo. Iris climbs to the cliff site, where she had lost her son, intending to kill herself. At the peak, she meets a stranger named Richard, who changes her mind, but in turn abducts her, planning to do the job by himself.
The movie received an IMDb rating of 5.9 out of 10, with a bunch of positive reviews, for its intriguing storyline. However, it was criticized for using the same cliche psycho-killer theme and keeping the ending almost predictable.
Fans on Reddit have posted their observations on numerous errors made by the team, which include presenting unfeasible logic and calling the on-screen experience very cheap.

On October 26, 2024, a Reddit user made a post presenting some key observations on the movie. Some key errors were pointed out regarding the execution of the screenplay:
"Her hands were tied with the tie rips, yet she managed to get a hold of that knife and took him by surprise, maybe it was the way it was filmed or acted but that scene was ridiculous. It felt very off to me. I definitely wanted her to win, but this felt so cheap," the user pointed out.
Another major disappointment for fans was that the film ended up keeping the viewers anticipating. Don't Move failed to justify the curiosity raised at the scenes at the start.
The audience wanted to know more about Richard's past, a psychoanalysis of the character. Whatever is known about Chloe and the accident is completely based on his narration, and can simply be a made-up story, just like his name and identity.
Additionally, in Don't Move, there were several instances, which felt hard to accept in a real-life situation, deteriorating the authenticity of the story.
Replying to the same Reddit post, many users pointed out their individual observations on the movie.
"Basically it's a movie where the writers didn't want to take any risks and the serial killers has unlimited plot amour," a user wrote.
"The other scene was earlier when the psycho was about to leave by car and decided he'd go back and get her, so he was aware she was behind the couch after all? To me it seemed he heard the finger taps but then saw nothing and left. More logical would be that he knew she was there and decided to "rescue" her after all," another fan commented.
Towards the end, the the serial killer made it out of the battle with just a cut on his brow, and one user made another observation.
" Plus him getting stabbed in the throat, getting shot multiple times and sinking into the lake but somehow he still manages to swim all the way back to shore? Something aint right lol," one fan also added.
Richard crashed his car with an accelerated speed on the tree, and yet he could walk, run, drag, and even kill people throughout the day. This seemed to be fictitious for a crime thriller.
" Another odd moment was the car crash at the beginning. It didn’t seem like she was wearing a seatbelt but once they hit the tree at what seemed like a decent speed (given the airbag deployment) she remained perfectly fine in the backseat?" a viewer observed.
The most probable outcome of this crash would have been Iris, throwing out off the windshield, or both of them being gravely injured. Don't Move failed to keep up the same intensity, as was envisioned during the trailer, at the beginning of the movie.
Sam Raimi's production Don't Move receives mixed reviews from the critics
Don't Move was more hyped up because of the prominent American filmmaker Sam Raimi being connected with its production. He came into prominence by directing horror movies, including the Evil Dead franchise and Drag Me to Hell.
Besides Raimi is known for his original Spider-Man trilogy, which established this character on the screen. In 2022, he went on to direct one of the darkest MCU films Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Because of Raimi's earlier work credits, and having produced the earlier film in this installment Don't Breathe in 2016, Don't Move was expected to be another chilling addition to Raimi's crime thriller genre.
But reviewers on popular movie reviewing platforms like IMDb, have kept their reviews constricted to an adequate watch. An article on Roger Ebert.com pointed out how Don't Move suffers from bad VFX work, and the movie's inability to create a tense mood, which the genre demands:
"The best thing that can be said about “Don’t Move” is that if you hazard to press play on Netflix, the time you may have wasted is at least easily forgettable," it reads.
However, a Deadline article, published on October 25, 2024, appreciated the spectacular cinematography done by Zach Kuperstein. He succeded in proving a skillful documentation of the tense and claustrophobic chase between Iris, and the serial killer.
Don't Move was primarily shot in Bulgaria between June and July of 2023. It succeeded in creating an ambiance similar to a forest in the United States.
Don't Move is available for streaming on Netflix.
