Amber Heard's infamous face-off with former husband Johnny Depp generated perhaps the biggest audience any trial has ever seen. The case was settled back in 2022 amid extreme discussions, a lot of opinions, and online campaigns that painted Heard as the perpetrator of this altercation.

The court ended up awarding Depp $15 million in his suit against Heard, with the jury ruling in his favor on all three claims.

However, in her first interview following the verdict, Amber Heard spoke to NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie on Today Show and claimed that she stands by every word she said about Depp and that she was not lying about any of the things she had been through. She also called out Johnny Depp's fanbase, who took it upon themselves to hit out on Amber Heard throughout the trial.

Heard had said:

"To my dying day [I] will stand by every word of my testimony...I spoke [truth] to power, and I paid the price."

She added about the Johnny Depp fanbase and their reaction:

"This was the most humiliating and horrible thing I’ve ever been through. I have never felt more removed from my own humanity. I felt less than human."

In the same interview, Heard alleged that the social media campaign against her going all around the world was a prime reason for swaying the jury's verdict. It is indeed hard to assume that the jury did not see what was going on on all social media platforms, especially as it was everywhere during the trial.

"You still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation."- Amber Heard on the social media trial

It is indeed true that most of the fans already had made up their minds before Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's trial concluded. This was primarily because of the huge wave that swept social media platforms. There were multiple allegations about this campaign later, with it being brought up recently in the latest Justin Baldoni case.

Amber Heard had strong opinions about this social media trial, and she said in the interview that no one could justify what she had gone through. She also further insisted that she was telling the truth even after she had lost the lawsuit.

She said:

"The jury is not immune to that...Even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation."

She also spoke about the alleged abuse, saying:

"I never had to instigate it, I responded to it...When you’re living in violence and it becomes normal, as I testified to, you have to adapt...When your life is at risk, not only will you take the blame for things that you shouldn’t take the blame for, but when you’re in an abusive dynamic psychologically, emotionally and physically, you don’t have the resources that say, you or I do, of saying, ‘This is black and white,’ because it’s anything but when you’re living in it."

This is the kind of story that hardly ever has a resolution. In all likelihood, both sides will never be satisfied with the results. And whatever happened between Depp and Heard will also perhaps remain a mystery to the rest of the world.
