Kris Kristofferson was a legendary country singer, songwriter, and actor who found immense success as a leading actor and singer in Hollywood. He passed away on September 28, 2024, at the age of 88 at his home in Maui.
He found more success as a singer in his career. But, he was equally enchanted by acting and made his acting debut in 1971 with Dennis Hopper's, The Last Movie. 1) A Star Is Born (1976)
The 1976 film, A Star Is Born, is the second adaptation of the 1937 film of the same name. Directed by Frank Pierson, the musical drama features Kris Kristofferson as the troubled rock star, John Norman Howard. He falls in love with the much younger and promising singer, Esther Hoffman, played by Barbra Streisand.
John finds himself unable to cope with Esther's growing popularity and becomes self-destructive with time. Kris Kristofferson shines in his role as the charismatic but lost rock star. In 1977, he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his role in the film.
2) Blade (1998)
The 1998 film is the first installment in the popular Blade franchise. Wesley Snipes stars as the vampire hunter Blade, who wages a war against vampires using his supernatural abilities. He is helped in his mission by his mentor and father-figure, Abraham Whistler, played by Kris Kristofferson.
Stephen Norrington directed the film from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. The movie also features Stephen Dorff, Traci Lords, Shannon Lee, N'Bushe Wright, Donal Logue, etc. in supporting roles.
3) Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974)
Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore is a romantic comedy film by Martin Scorsese. The movie stars Ellen Burstyn in her Oscar-winning role as the single mother, Alice Hyatt. Alice sets out into the world in search of a better life for herself and her son, Tommy. However, fate forces her to choose between her dream of being a singer in California or settling down with the rancher David (Kris Kristofferson) in Arizona.

Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid is a classic Western film that offers plenty of thrills, gunslinging action, and high-stakes drama. Directed by Sam Peckinpah, the film tells the tale of two childhood friends, who end up on opposite sides of the law.
Sheriff Garrett (James Coburn) is tasked to find his former friend Billy the Kid, played by Kris Kristofferson, now a notorious outlaw who is on the run. Bound by duty, Garrett sets off on his mission. But Billy proves to be far more evasive than he had previously expected.
5) Heaven’s Gate (1980)
Set in Wyoming, this Western film is inspired by the Johnson County War that broke out in 1893. Kris Kristofferson plays the Harvard graduate, James Averill, who becomes the sheriff of Jackson County. He steps in to resolve nasty disputes between the poor European immigrants and wealthy cattle farmers, who are backed by Nathan Champion.
Heaven’s Gate is directed by Michael Cimino and produced by Joann Carelli. Its star cast includes Jeff Bridges, Christopher Walken, John Hurt, and Sam Waterston, among others.
