The science fiction action film Uglies was released on Netflix on Friday, September 13, 2024. The plot is based on Scott Westerfeld's 2005 dystopian novel of the same name. The screenplay for the movie has been written by Jacob Forman, Vanessa Taylor, and Whit Anderson.
In Uglies, Joey King plays Tally Youngblood, a teenager in a futuristic society prioritizing physical beauty over everything else. She sets out on a personal quest accompanied by companions that ultimately help her understand the value of inner beauty compared to outer appearances.
Besides King, the film features Chase Stokes as Peris, Keith Powers as David, Brianne Tju as Shay, and Laverne Cox as Dr. Cable.

1) Joey King as Tally Youngblood
Joey King's Tally Youngblood is the main protagonist of Uglies. In the film, every individual who reaches 16 years of age is expected to undergo surgery that accentuates their external appearance and makes them more suited for society. Tally is also expected to undergo the same surgery, but several revelations later she finds herself on a different path than she had anticipated.

Laverne Cox portrays Dr. Cable, a figure of authority and one of the film's antagonists. It is her duty to ensure order is upheld in society, and if there are any disturbances, she must take action to restore it.
