Keira Knightley has been one of the most prominent figures in Hollywood over the past two decades, most recently making her mark in Netflix's acclaimed spy thriller Black Doves, where Knightley takes on the role of the protagonist. Through her various roles over the years, Knightley has also become an artist who's often in discussions.

During her younger years, though, these discussions were more negative than positive. Back then, Knightley had garnered a lot of negative attention, with the actress even answering many such concerns in her early interviews. However, it changed significantly over the years, as noticed by most fans and critics.

According to Keira Knightley, she had an epiphany on her 25th birthday, which significantly changed how she looked at things. In an interview dating back a decade, the then-29-year-old actress discussed this, saying:

"Up to 25, I was pretty neurotic,"

She then revealed that she had an epiphany of sorts on her 25th birthday, which changed her. She expanded on the realization and answered if it was indeed so sudden, saying:

"It absolutely was. It was my 25th birthday. I remember it so clearly. I suddenly woke up at 25 and was like…It’s all OK. We went bowling. We had a really silly party with karaoke, which I hate, and loads of balloons. And it was just excellent. Lots of cupcakes. Lots of booze. And suddenly there was just that dawning…And that’s what’s happened since. It was exactly the right way to go,"

Knightley went on to explain why she behaved the way she did back then and how it could possibly be because of her young age.

"I was just very embarrassed at being young"- Keira Knightley on her attempts to fit in with others

Keira Knightley was one of the actors who was thrust into the limelight at quite a young age and by the time she was in her early 20s, she was already among the more renowned Hollywood celebrities.

She explained in this same interview how she tried to playact as an adult, which perhaps was the primary reason behind the behaviors that were deemed negative by certain fans and media at the time. Knightley explained:

"I was just very embarrassed at being young, probably because I’d worked with people who were a lot older than me from such a young age. And so yes, I think I did playact a version of trying to be a grown-up. Trying to be sensible and good and professional in a way I don’t now. Not that I behave badly or do anything, but you suddenly realise that you’ve set yourself a very specific framework to live within, and that can be quite claustrophobic and unnecessary."

However, following her epiphany on her birthday, she stopped trying to be older than her real age, and that significantly changed her image.

Now 39, Keira Knightley has firmly established herself as one of the leading women in Hollywood, collecting multiple accolades and nominations in the process.

Her most recent works include Misbehaviour, Boston Strangler and Black Doves. Knightley has continued to receive critical acclaim for her performances, and will perhaps continue to receive that in her future endeavors.

Keira Knightley's latest work, Black Doves, is currently streaming on Netflix.
