Vanished Into the Night is an Italian film (originally titled Svaniti Nella Notte) released on Netflix on July 11, 2024. The thriller film is based on a 2003 Argentinian film titled Séptimo.
Vanished Into the Night stars Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio (known for The Shadow of the Day, A Haunting in Venice, and John Wick: Chapter 2) in the role of Pietro. He is joined by Annabelle Wallis (known for The Peaky Blinders, The Mummy, and The Silencing) in the role of his wife Elena. The plot follows how Elena and Pietro who are going through a separation, are suddenly faced with the disappearance of their two children.

Vanished into the Night ending explained: Pietro retains custody of the children as Elena takes the flight to New York by herself
From the beginning, it is evident that Pietro and Elena are having difficulty reaching a mutual understanding about their divorce. Giovanni and Bianca, their children, are but a portion of it. Elena wants to go back to the US because she wants to restart her career as a psychotherapist.
However, Elena developed a painkiller addiction after a terrible automobile accident, while Pietro has a gambling addiction. Elena worries about the money she gave Pietro to purchase the farmhouse they intended to turn into a hotel.
When their kids are kidnapped and a ransom of 150,000 Euros is demanded by the kidnappers, Elena presses Pietro to enlist the aid of a rich gang member he formerly collaborated with. Pietro consents to help him with a little trafficking job in return for the cash they want. However, after a terrifying night, everything looks normal when he gets back to Elena's apartment; their kids are eating breakfast as if nothing happened, and Elena acts unaware of the kidnapping.
In the finale of Vanished Into the Night, Pietro discovers shockingly that Elena was responsible for kidnapping their children. She drugged the children and arranged for someone to call Pietro for ransom. Earlier, Pietro had completed a drug trafficking deal to obtain the ransom money, which Elena recorded. She planned to use his confession to gain custody of their children.
The plot becomes even more interesting when Pietro uncovers Elena's pill box in his toilet, which could prove Elena's involvement in drugging the children. Pietro races to the airport to confront Elena before she departs for New York with Bianca and Giovanni.
He reveals to Elena that the only reason he hasn't made the situation public is to protect their kids from harm. Elena finally lets go of the custody of the children amicably after being offered the opportunity to leave Italy without facing any repercussions.
However, Vanished Into the Night ends on a cryptic note when the concluding scenes show the children playing at Pietro's house as Pietro looks over at the family picture. There is a figure in a trench coat looking through the glass kitchen door. It is not revealed whether the figure was Elena, or a part of Pietro's imagination, leaving any chances of reconciliation between the two, open-ended.
