Simran Bhogal is the subject of Netflix’s recent true-crime documentary Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare, released on October 16, 2024. The documentary tells the story of how Bhogal engaged in an elaborate catfishing scheme by pretending to be Bobby Jandu (who is an actual person) and then getting into a romantic relationship with her cousin, Kirat Assi.

This is not the first time that Bhogal’s story has been told to the public. In 2021, Tortoise Media released a podcast called Sweet Bobby, which narrated the same. In that podcast, the host claimed that Bhogal worked as a “Vice President at a British bank" and that the bank was a popular one.

The same has been claimed by several Reddit and X posts. As per a report from Cosmopolitan, Simran Bhogal was reportedly at Barclays for some time. However, Bhogal's LinkedIn profile cannot be found anymore, and her overall online presence has been erased.

Exploring Simran Bhogal’s connection with Barclays

Alexi Mostrous, the narrator of the 2021 podcast, claimed that Bhogal used to work with a well-known British bank. He added:

“You'd know the name. And it was a pretty big deal.”

Cosmopolitan published a report on October 16, 2024, in which a certain post on X from 2018 is quoted. The post from Talent Ticker corroborates the above claim, stating:

“Barclays promotes Simran Bhogal to Vice President, COO & Finance Business Partner.”

Apart from Cosmopolitan, media outlets like Forbes, Times Now World, among others, have linked Bhogal to Barclays. Times Now World, for instance, published a report on October 22, 2024, that talked of "Bhogal working as Barclay's vice president" for a period of time.

Besides the aforementioned sources, there is another source that links Bhogal to Barclays. A Reddit thread on a subreddit dedicated to unsolved mysteries also suggests that Bhogal used to work at Barclays.

Business Insider, in a report published on October 22, 2024, stated that it had reached out to a representative for Barclays for comment, which, however, has not been received yet.

What about Simran Bhogal’s LinkedIn profile?

As per a report published by Cosmopolitan on October 16, 2024, Bhogal has no online presence, with her profile not being present on LinkedIn or any other social media platforms. A report published by Forbes a day later stated the same. Thus, there is no profile or post that can link Simran Bhogal to Barclays on LinkedIn.

Further, as per Cosmopolitan, during the research for the podcast, it was found out that Bhogal had a “history of lying on social media,” some of it going all the way back to college. However, no traces of the same can be found any longer, including Simran Bhogal’s LinkedIn.

Where is Bhogal now?

Not much is known about the current whereabouts of the subject of Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare. In the podcast, Mostrous mentioned that “she left” her job. No LinkedIn post can be found to trace exactly when she left her job. As per the latest findings published by Times Now World, Bhogal currently lives a “low profile life” with her parents in North West London.

Since catfishing is not a criminal offense in the UK, no charges could be made against Bhogal. However, Assi went to the civil court in 2020. The civil court made Bhogal pay Assi a certain sum of money, in addition to issuing a private apology letter.

Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare is currently streaming on Netflix.
