Werewolves is a supernatural horror-thriller movie that stars Frank Grillo as CDC scientist Wesley Marshall. The plot focuses on him trying to save his family and find a cure as billions of people turn into werewolves during a supermoon event. Wesley eventually becomes a werewolf to find a cure to save humanity before the movie ends.
Directed by Steven C. Miller, the story revolves around Marshall, his search for a cure, and his need to protect his late brother's family in a world in which nearly everyone has become a werewolf on a supermoon night.
Marshall and his sidekick, Dr. Amy Chen, cross a city teeming with these gruesome creatures to protect his sister-in-law and niece.
While the remaining humans battle werewolves, Wesley scrambles to search for a cure.

Werewolves ending: Wesley saves humanity by finding a cure
The film opens with Wesley, who is not only a CDC scientist but also a former special ops operative who was trailed in the military. A supermoon event on an ill-fated night has activated a dormant gene in humanity that converts them into blood-thirsty werewolves.
Even if the moonlight just touches their skin or they look at it, the gene gets activated. About a billion people convert into these monsters on the first supermoon night.
One year later, another supermoon event threatens humanity's fate, leading to Wesley and his scientists scrambling to find a cure. They develop a supposed cure, aptly named "moonscreen," in which one has to spray it on the skin to block the moon's effects and, thereby, prevent one's conversion into a fanged monster.
The moonscreen is tested on caged volunteers at a government research facility. It works for an hour until, as expected, things go awry and they become hairy Lycans.
After the ensuing bloodbath at the research facility, Wesley and Dr. Chen, who like him is trained in the military, travel across the city to protect his late brother's wife and child. They also help protect the duo against a gun-toting neighbor.

While most of the 94-minute movie is centered around the werewolf vs. human conflict, the quick ending shows the main protagonist turning into the creature itself by looking at the supermoon.
He finally develops novocaine, a cure that would help restore him to human form, thereby saving humanity and the world.
