Look into My Eyes is the latest upcoming American documentary film from A24. Directed and produced by Lana Wilson. The documentary follows a group of psychics in New York City conducting intimate readings for their clients.

Wilson’s documentary goes beyond questions of right and wrong as it explores the the close connection that occurs between two people during a reading. She explores how more than looking for answers, individuals usually seek a connection through speaking and listening.

The documentary doesn't just cover the sessions and explore how they take place; it also looks at how psychics exist individually and in a community with one another.

The documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2024, and was released in theaters on September 6, 2024, by A24.

What is Look Into My Eyes all about? How did Lana Wilson come up with the documentary?

It all began one night when Wilson walked into a store lit with a single neon sign that read “$5 Psychic Reading.”

The experience she had there - two strangers together in a small room staring down the societal unknown - left her shaken and filled with questions. The most burning of them was: what do the millions of people around the world who go to psychics every year get out of it?

Lana Wilson has always been drawn to forms of healing, which has reflected in her works like After Tiller, which chronicles the careers of third-trimester abortion doctors or 2017’s The Departure, where she follows a punk-turned Buddhist priest devoted to suicide counseling.

Even her 2020 film Miss Americana captured the side of Taylor Swift as a bruised pop star desperate to use her powers to fix her country. Wilson’s new film, Look Into My Eyes, is not much different and brings together similar themes of therapy and healing but through the exploration of psychic practices.

Wilson is a self-professed skeptic with no religious ties, and her upcoming project to find the human elements at the heart of the psychic industry also reflects the same.

About A24's Look into My Eyes

Look Into My Eyes focuses on seven psychics who are young and involved in the arts in some form.

They are all eccentric in one way or the other. The documentary even explores one of them experiencing paranormal phenomena and googled “psychic classes” to hone his skills and another claiming to be a part-time screenwriter who has a hoarding problem.

The documentary explores a number of such stories. The official logline of Look Into My Eyes reads as follows:

“‘Look Into My Eyes’ sets its gaze upon a group of New York City psychics as they conduct deeply intimate readings for their clients, revealing a kaleidoscope of connection, healing, and the eternal need to have witnesses to better see ourselves.”

As per Lana Wilson, whose previous films include the Taylor Swift documentary Miss Americana, The Departure, After Tiller and the two-part Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, which earned two Emmy nominations, the film is:

“Not only an exploration of the phenomenon of psychic readings — it’s an invitation to think about the role of art and performance in our lives."

The documentary is edited by Hannah Buck, while Stephen Maing is the director of photography. It's produced by Kyle Martin, while Catapult Film Fund and Artemis Rising have financed the film, with A24 producing and distributing it.
