Anthony Mackie hilariously hit back at Tom Holland's jab at him from years ago. During the Marvel Studios Hall H panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 27, Mackie had a few choice words for his Marvel co-star Tom Holland, who took a shot at him back in 2018.
The actor who is prepping to make his debut as the new Captain America in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World said:
"Yeah, Tom Holland, f**k you!"
Holland and Mackie have always shared hilarious back-and-forth banter regarding their status in the MCU. Back in a 2018 ACE Comic-Con interview, when Mackie revealed that he hadn't seen Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming yet, the British actor teased Mackie for not having a solo Falcon movie yet.
He repeated the same sentiments in 2021 when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had just come out.
"I'm excited for Tom Holland to see my movie": Anthony Mackie on Captain America: Brave New World
During Saturday's Marvel Studios Hall H panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Anthony Mackie made sure that he had Tom Holland's attention. Multiple years passed by when the Spider-Man: No Way Home actor would tease the Captain America: Winter Soldier star for not having a solo movie, and now he was about to get one in Captain America: Brave New World.
As mentioned earlier, during the panel, Mackie responded to Tom Holland's remarks. The actor later explained his sentiments during an interview with IGN during the event. When he was asked about the "one thing" he was most excited about prior to the release of Brave New World, Mackie responded:
"I'm excited for Tom Holland to see my movie."
When asked if he was going to save Holland a seat at the premiere, Anthony Mackie jokingly quipped that Tom Holland was his "date" to the premiere. He added:
"Zendaya, whatever you need to do, like come with your friend or something but he (Tom Holland) coming with me to the movie."
Anthony Mackie further quipped that he was going to need some "honest critique" of the film from Holland, which he was going to livestream while sitting right next to the Uncharted star.
Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie have been going back and forth for quite a few years. It all started during a press junket for Captain America: Civil War in 2016 when Mackie joked about Holland, who made his MCU debut with the movie, being a diva on set who frequently needed juice breaks and handlers.
In a 2017 interview with ABC News, Tom Holland insinuated that the friendly beef might've started when he stole Anthony Mackie's line "cut the check" from the actor, who shouts the phrase whenever he did a perfect take.
One time, Holland used the line while filming, which led to the rest of the crew erupting in laughter. Mackie, who wanted to tell a joke at the time, couldn't get the joke out due to the commotion.
In a 2018 interview during ACE Comic Con, Mackie took a shot at Holland by joking about not having seen Holland's debut as Spiderman, Spiderman: Homecoming. Tom Holland slyly responded:
"I haven't seen the Falcon one — oh no wait, there isn't one! I'm sorry."
The audience applauded Holland's response and Mackie himself was impressed and gave the actor a handshake. Later, in 2021 when Holland did an interview with Comicbook.com to promote Spider-Man: No Way Home, the actor was asked if Anthony Mackie boasted to him after the announcement of Captain America 4. However, Tom Holland jokingly replied:
"He hasn't got his own movie yet. He got a TV show, but he didn't get his own movie. Also, it's called 'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,' it's not called 'The Falcon.' I saw that online, everyone was like 'Anthony Mackie says Tom Holland's eating his words.' I'm not eating my words. I said, 'there is no Falcon movie.' There isn't one."
Anthony Mackie's Captain America: Brave New World is all set to hit theaters across the world on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2025.
