In April 2022, a lovestruck guard and a murder suspect fled an Alabama jail together. This is the true story of their unbelievable run from the law.
Jailbreak: Love on the Run: Who is Casey White?
Casey White, who is now 41 years old, was already serving a 75-year prison sentence for a series of violent crimes when he became famous for his 2022 prison escape. As per CNN, in 2015, he was involved in a home invasion, carjacking, and multiple shootings.
He was found guilty in 2019 under the charges of attempt to murder and first-degree robbery. Even though he was already serving a long sentence, his situation got worse when he confessed to an additional crime.
In 2020, while he was in the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility, Casey wrote a letter to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, admitting to the 2015 murder of Connie Ridgeway. As a result, he was charged with capital murder and moved to the Lauderdale County Detention Center for his trial.
Later, he changed his confession and pleaded not guilty. By this time, he was already in a relationship with Vicky. Prisoners in the jail and the guards said that he was friendly but could get violent, especially when he allegedly used drugs. He and Vicky became friends, which ultimately led to jailbreak.
After an 11-day search, Casey White was caught in Evansville, Indiana. He and Vicky had crashed their car while running from the police. Vicky killed herself at the scene, and Casey surrendered to the police.
As per NBC News, Casey eventually admitted his guilt in escaping, and in return, the murder charge against him for Vicky's death was dropped. He is now serving a life sentence in prison and cannot be released on parole.
