Land of Bad's recent availability on several streaming platforms has given the American war film a new lease on life following its theatrical release on February 16, 2024.
The movie stars Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth, Luke Hemsworth, Ricky Whittle, and Milo Ventimiglia. It follows a team from the United States Delta Force tasked with rescuing a CIA spy held in the southern part of the Philippines.
While Luke Hemsworth's Sergeant Abell, Ricky Whittle's Sergeant Bishop, and Milo Ventimiglia's Master Sergeant John "Sugar" Sweet are already on location, Liam Hemsworth's AF Sergeant JJ Kinney joins later.
Kinney's designation differs slightly from his co-workers as he is affiliated with the JTAC, which stands for Joint Terminal Attack Controller. For the uninitiated, a JTAC primarily directs attacks on the ground by receiving instructions from someone in the air, typically from a drone. Additionally, the JTAC must ensure that collateral damage to people on the ground is minimized.
Exploring Liam Hemsworth's JJ Kinney's position in Land of Bad
As previously stated, Liam Hemsworth's JJ Kinney in Land of Bad was later sent to the location to support the existing team of the US Army Delta Force. He was dispatched when the rescue mission to bring back the CIA spy went south.
With the help of Captain Eddie Grimm and the support of Staff Sergeant Nia Branson, Kinney ensured that the Force operated at full potential on the ground. He was responsible for directing air strikes at the location. He was also required to identify targets before that, to ensure that the bombs didn't hit the wrong people.
How did Liam Hemsworth prepare for his role in Land of Bad?
To make his on-screen appearance as a JTAC authentic, Liam Hemsworth went into serious training mode. He learned the intricacies of the job, including handling weapons and taking directions, to fully embody the character.
To be able to better study the character he was portraying, Hemsworth formed a close friendship with a real JTAC, who, ironically, was also named Kinney. It's safe to say that Hemsworth left no stone unturned to get into the character, which is visible from his portrayal of the same.
