Sony Pictures Entertainment has released another trailer for Kraven the Hunter film, which has got people curious about the powers and abilities of the popular Marvel villain-turned antihero.
The character, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, was first introduced in the 15th edition of The Amazing Spider-Man comic series, released in 1964. Kraven is a big game hunter, who has tamed every beast of the animal kingdom. His increased appetite for hunting makes the web-slinging Spiderman his biggest target.
However, Kraven the Hunter film, which is a part of Sony's Spiderman Universe, seems to have made significant changes in its adaptation of the character. He's presented as an antihero rather than a villain.

The film is directed by J. C. Chandor and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott and Russell Crowe in prominent roles.
Does Kraven the Hunter have any powers?
Kraven the Hunter a.k.a Sergei Kravinoff is an apex big-game hunter with superhuman strength. He was born and raised in Russia by his tough aristocratic father Nikolai Kravinoff, who taught him hunting skills.
Sergei had to deal with many tragedies in life, which made him tough and hardened. He went to Africa and discovered his natural talent for hunting, and by the time he became an adult, his name was already legendary.
During his exploits, he stole a herbal potion from a witch doctor in Belgian Congo. The potion, which he periodically ingests, gave him superhuman human strength to lift over two tonnes and sprint at 60 mph. He has enhanced senses and increased stamina, often considered greater than Captain America.
Sergei is also skilled in using different types of weaponry. He uses shotguns, dartguns, axes, spears, whips, exotic poisons and gas bombs and creates various traps to apprehend his targets.
He can train animals to such an extent that multiple animals fight for him with perfect synchronization. He can also fight like a martial artist, exploiting the enemy's pressure points. Moreover, despite getting older, his physical prowess remains like that of a 30-year-old.
From the trailer, it seems like the myth behind Sergie's powers has been changed. It's shown that his powers originated after a lion's blood mixed with his blood.
Is Kraven the Hunter immortal?
Kraven is a physical specimen, who's an apex predator even without his powers. The herbal potion stunted his aging process due to which he's always at his peak physicality. However, his immortality isn't a result of the herbal potion but is due to a botched resurrection process.
After many attempts to catch Spiderman, he finally overpowered the web-slinging hero and buried him alive. After that, he took his identity and started fighting crime to prove that he was better than his enemy. However, soon the proud hunter realized that he had no purpose left and took his own life.
His family tried to resurrect him by sacrificing Spiderman. But the process was interrupted, leaving Kraven in a state of immortality. His immortality can only end if Spiderman kills himself.
Eventually, Kraven made his Last Son kill him and break the curse. His Last Son, who was one of Sergei's clones, then took the mantle of Kraven the Hunter himself.
Kraven the Hunter's origin explored
Sergei Kravinoff was raised in Volgograd and St. Petersburg with his half-brother Dmitri Smerdyakov, who was a servant of his aristocratic family. The Kravinoffs had to leave Russia and take asylum in the UK and later in the US.
After Sergei's father died, his mother was sent to an asylum, where he developed an intense hatred for spiders. His mother eventually killed herself. These tragic events propelled him to survive in harsh conditions and use every method available for survival.
He learns to travel extensively through trains, cargo ships and illegal trade routes and lands in Africa, where he hones his natural gift of hunting. In Congo, he steals herbal potions from a witch doctor that increases his strength and stamina, making him Kraven the Hunter.
However, in Sony's Spiderman Universe standalone film, the origin story might have been changed. It seems from the trailer that Kraven got his powers from a lion's blood, which is similar to how Spiderman and Morbius got their powers in the SSU.
Kraven the Hunter will be in theatres on December 13, 2024.
