Fans are bouncing off the walls with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine's final trailer and the appearance of Dafne Keen as X-23. Marvel stuffed so many surprises into a single trailer, that the wait for its release on July 26, 2024, now feels too long. Fans hope this film will finally help simplify the MCU's complex interrelationships between its universes.
From seeing a female Deadpool variant to encountering the skull of Scott Lang aka, the Antman, the film is full of surprises. And what is suddenly exciting the fans' anticipation is the shocking cameo of Dafne Keen taking up her role as Laura or Weapon X-23.
Laura is the long-lost clone daughter of Logan, whom we last saw as a child in the 2017 film Logan. This fulfilled MCU fans' long-awaited anticipation of having this character back on the screens.
Dafne Keen’s role in Logan explored
Laura played by Dafne Keen, is the clone daughter of Logan, who was part of the Transigen Project. It was led by Zander Rice, who created genetically modified mutants, taking genetic materials from mutants and using captive women as surrogates. The children were produced like weapons to set up for auction. After the successful creation of Weapon X-24, all previous variants were intended for termination.
With the help of some sympathetic nurses, Laura, along with some other mutants, flees from the lab to find refuge in Eden, North Dakota. One of the nurses, Gabriela Lopez, adopts Laura and asks for Logan's help, which becomes his last mission to save his daughter.
The audience should keep in mind that Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine movie is from a different universe. Wolverine from this universe, which is Earth-616, died in the last scene of Logan, leaving Laura by herself.
Deadpool's Universe, also known as Earth-616 or the Sacred Timeline begins to collapse as Logan is the anchor to this universe. Hence, Deadpool's primary mission in the movie is to bring back his Earth and he needs Wolverine's help to make it happen.
