What did Wanda Holloway do and what happened to her?
Wanda Holloway is a mother of two, who served as an organist at the local Missionary Baptist Church. In 1991, she was charged with conspiracy for murder. She was planning to hire a hitman to kill the mother of her 14-year-old's cheerleading rival.
Holloway's daughter, Shanna, had previously failed twice to make the cheerleading squad and had confided in her mother about her disappointment. She had blamed Verna and her daughter Amber for ruining her chances, as per People. This led Wanda Holloway to take the extreme step. Fortunately, before Holloway could execute her plan, the police got wind of it and arrested her.
Holloway had allegedly contacted her former brother-in-law Terry Harper to ask if he could arrange a hit. As per People, Harper agreed but then went to the Harris County sheriff’s office to report the incident. He also agreed to cooperate with the police to get to Holloway and wore a wire to gather evidence against her when the two met to finalize the deal.
Harper and Holloway met in a motel's parking lot to discuss the deal and their conversation was recorded by Harper, which he handed over to the police. Holloway was then arrested and charged with solicitation of capital murder.
Following the arrest, the case garnered national attention and Holloway became infamous as the "pom pom mom." She was convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison. However, the conviction was overturned and before her second trial could begin, Holloway pleaded no contest. She was then sentenced to 10 years but received probation after serving just six months of her sentence.
