What is the plot of Inside Out 2?
Inside Out 2 follows Riley Andersen, now 13 years old, who has adjusted to life in San Francisco after moving, as she enters high school. The original Inside Out girl, Riley, has a new role for Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger, as they all work together for the first time, in charge of a new part of her mind called the "Sense of Self," which defines her beliefs and memories.
Joy attempts to keep Riley's memories positive, but when a "Puberty Alarm" goes off, new emotions Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui arrive. They cause chaos at Headquarters and lead to conflicts regarding handling Riley's feelings.
Riley and her friends, Bree and Grace, are excited to attend hockey camp, but Anxiety takes over, and she focuses on winning and being liked. Joy, while trying to keep Riley happy, lands her in trouble with the camp director.
Anxiety captures the raw emotions and creates a new Sense of Self - defined by and consumed by fear and self-doubt. This takes Riley to the choices that strain her friendships, including trying to impress the class president candidate, Val Ortiz.
When Riley becomes more confused about her emotions, problems arise over hockey tryouts and the issue of unintentionally hurting Grace. The panic then brings on a whirlwind of emotions, culminating in a meltdown.
However, Joy informs Riley that she does not have to change who she is for everything to be all right. Together, they form a new sense of self, made up of positive and negative memories. Riley reconciles with friends as she accepts herself in the last scene to brightly progress into life, ready to start in the Firehawks hockey team.
