A Merry Scottish Christmas is a Hallmark TV movie released on November 18, 2023, on their channel. The movie is directed by Dustin Rikert based on a screenplay he wrote in collaboration with Andrea Canning and Audrey Shulman.
The movie narrates the story of estranged American siblings Brad Morgan and Dr. Lindsey Morgan, who decide to visit their mother's childhood home for Christmas. Upon visiting the fictional town of Glencrave in Scotland, the siblings reconcile and also discover that their mother belongs to the family of the duchess.
With Scott Wolf and Lacey Chabert playing the lead roles, A Merry Scottish Christmas is set against the backdrop of the Scottish countryside. The principal photography took place between May and July of 2023. Though the movie was primarily shot in Scotland, parts of it were also filmed across Ireland.

1) Duns Castle Estate, Berwickshire, Scotland
The Glencrave Castle which is portrayed as the ancestral home of Brad and Lindsey's mother, is actually the Duns Castle. This is a private estate, located in Berwickshire. This historic location in Scotland dates back to the 14th century and spans over 1000 acres.
Generationally owned by the Hay Family since the 17th century, Duns Castle received its Gothic architecture between 1818 to 1822. Currently, it is rented out for film shoots, luxury weddings, business events, and posh vacations.
2) Inveraray, Scotland
Most of the pedestrian locations shown in Hallmark's A Merry Scottish Christmas were primarily shot in Inveraray, which is a town in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. In the movie, this is the place where the Highland dancing competition and the Christmas fair take place.
It is a coastal town lying on the western shore of Loch Fyne. The town is historically rich, being the home to the Duke of Argyll. One of its most historic monuments is the Inveraray Castle, built during the 18th century. The streets are lined up with antique shops and beautiful Scottish architecture. The fictional Forge Head Shetland's Cafe, shown in the movie, is actually a cafe called the Victorian Tea Room, located in Barberstown Cross, Straffan in the Kildare County of Ireland.
In A Merry Scottish Christmas, the Salinger's pub is actually a 100-year-old building known as Brennan's Kilteel Inn, located on Main Street, in Kilteel Village, County Kildare.
The locations around the Irish village of Straffan also played a key role in adding a picturesque ambiance to the fictional Glencrave village. The Barberstown Castle was shown as the 4-star luxurious hotel in the movie.
4) County Westmeath, Ireland
In A Merry Scottish Christmas, the tour guide shows the siblings around the Kilbride Distillery. The whisky-tasting scenes in the distillery with its complete tour were shot in the Old Kilbeggan Distillery, located on Lower Main Street, in County Westmeath, Ireland. Established back in 1757, this is one of Ireland's oldest licensed distilleries.
It was closed back in 1957 due to financial constraints but was renovated and reopened in 2007. The site is currently owned by Suntory Global Spirits. Still maintaining the old slate roof and brick walls, this place has become a popular tourist spot. It is just a little more than an hour's drive from the capital city of Ireland.
