Ad Vitam is a French action thriller film directed by Rodolphe Lauga, from a screenplay he co-wrote with David Corona and Guillaume Canet. It was released on Netflix on January 10, 2024.
The movie follows Franck, a former elite GIGN agent who races against time to save his pregnant wife from a dangerous enemy. Ad Vitam is streaming exclusively on Netflix. Here's how the platform describes its plot:
"In this dramatic thriller, an ex-special ops agent goes on the run in Paris after unknown enemies kidnap his wife in their search for explosive evidence."
The film stars Guillaume Canet, Stéphane Caillard, and Nassim Lyes in prominent roles. It was filmed mainly in Paris and Versailles between April and June of 2024.
Ad Vitam was shot in and around Paris
The race against time action thriller uses its location as a character, whether it's the famous landmark of Paris or abandoned buildings or wilderness. The film is essentially set in Paris where Frank must find a way to save his wife Leo, who has been held hostage for a mysterious key that Franck possesses. Hence, the present time is mostly filmed in Paris.
However, many scenes include Franck's training days and a failed mission, which changed the course of his life. Those scenes were filmed in the suburbs around Paris.
Paris, France
The historical city of Paris is where most of the film's action takes place. As Frank rushes from one place to another in desperation to save Leo, we can see the famous monuments like Basilique du Sacré-Coeur in the background. Several scenes are set up around the picturesque Seine River, where we can see its beautiful banks and bridges.
Suburbs of Paris
The filming of Ad Vitam took place between April 8 to June 20, 2024, as reported by Net Filming. A large part of production took place in the suburban areas of Paris as well. The lesser-known locations aided the film's visual narrative as the peaceful but scary countryside becomes the setting for a lot of action, most of which takes place in the Industrial Zones and Warehouses.
Versailles
In Ad Vitam, another iconic and historical French city becomes a key location for the film's narrative. The luxurious Chateau de Versailles, known for its opulence, is a key setting for one of the sequences. The chase sequence through the Versailles Gardens follows Franck navigating the hedges and fountains to evade capture.
There is another important action scene that has been filmed in the Trianon Hotel in Versailles, which features a bloody shootout, turning the dance hotel into a mess.
