Halloweentown, starring Debbie Reynolds, Kimberly J. Brown, Joey Zimmerman, and Judith Hoag, was released on October 17, 1998, on Disney Channel. It was the first installment of a four-part movie series chronicling the life of a teenager named Marnie who is told that she is a witch on her thirteenth birthday.

After discovering her witch heritage, Marnie is transported to a mysterious place called Halloweentown, where she encounters people similar to her in certain aspects and different in others. She meets witches, demons, spirits, and werewolves, most of whom are good-natured. Additionally, she encounters evil spirits, dangerous spells, and several other adverse circumstances.

To do justice to the film premised on the concept of Halloween, the makers had to choose a place that best suited the narrative. Thus, the film was primarily shot in Oregon, which provided the perfect backdrop for the fantasy comedy film. While some parts of the movie were filmed in St. Helens, Oregon, some were filmed in Scappoose, Oregon, USA.

There were only two primary locations that were used for filming the movie. These locations were:

St. Helens, Columbia County, Oregon

Halloweentown was extensively filmed in St. Helens, Columbia County, Oregon, USA. The location's topography creates a perfect mix of magic and realism, making it the ideal place where Marnie is transported after her birthday.

St. Helens owes its geographical significance to its location. It is intersected by U.S. Route 30 and is situated along the west bank of the Columbia River, north of the entrance of Multnomah Channel. Milton Creek flows through the town and then enters the Multnomah Channel by way of Scappoose Bay.

Scappoose, Oregon

Scappoose, Oregon, in Columbia County, USA, was also extensively used as a filming location for Halloweentown. It was used to depict the place where Marnie and her family lived before she was transported to the peculiar magical town.

Scappoose offers an unforgettable skyline due to its proximity to Scappoose Bay, which plays an important part in Columbia County's history.
