Latoya Ammons: Is she still alive?
Ammons, the subject of the film The Deliverance, is still alive. Moreover, she claims that after the exorcism was performed in the haunted house, she and her family have been living without fear.
A detailed report on IndyStar., published on January 25, 2014, chronicles the entire case of the Ammons’ haunting in the aftermath of the exorcism. Talking to the writer of the report, Ammons stated that her family moved back to Indianapolis after the incident, and there they lived “without fear”.
As per a more recent source, Latoya Ammons, the subject of The Deliverance, is still alive. The confirmation comes from none other than the director of the film.
Talking about whether he talked to the family prior to making the film, Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter the following on August 20, 2024:
“I did in the very beginning. [They were] so gracious. It’s my interpretation of her life story. I purposely didn’t want to meet her because I was nervous.”
He continued:
“But I spoke to her, I believe once or twice, in the beginning. And she’s lovely. She was at peace.”

The Deliverance narrates a chilling tale based on a true story
Though the names of the real-life characters are changed in the film, it fictionally re-creates the historical Ammons haunting case. Ammons, along with her mother, Rosa Campbell, and her three children, moved to a new house in Gary, Indiana, in 2011. All of the family members reported paranormal occurrences in their new abode.
Initially, there was some scope for skepticism. It was even speculated that the supernatural elements attributed to the three children could possibly be a result of child abuse. Any mental illness of the family members was not ruled out either.
However, the paranormal incidents started becoming more and more violent, and eventually, the Church had to step in. So intense was the demonic possession that three rounds of exorcism had to be performed before the family was restored to safety.
The Deliverance, however, takes some liberty with the facts to portray the story. For instance, the character of the grandmother is a white woman in the film, bringing in a racial element that makes the story more compelling.
