Movie plot

Practical Magic speaks about the Owens sisters, Sally and Gillian, who are cursed by their ancestor Maria Owens. An Owens woman is destined to die if she falls in love with a man. Aunts take care of the sisters in a small Massachusetts town after their parents' death.

Jimmy, Gillian's abusive boyfriend, dies accidentally, while Sally marries but loses her husband to the curse. They make an effort to revive him, but his spirit continues to haunt them.

Jimmy's spirit is exorcised, and the family curse is broken with the assistance of their aunts and townswomen. The community finally accepts the Owens women, and Sally falls in love with investigator Gary.
