Sand Dollar Cove, a Hallmark Channel movie released on June 26, 2021, is based on Nancy Naigle's 2015 book of the same name. Directed by Fred Gerber and written by Alex Wright and Nancy Naigle, the film stars Aly Michalka as Elli, a real estate manager aiming to buy a beach property for a resort. Chad Michael Murray plays Brody, the local landowner who wants to preserve his family's historical connection to the town and refuses to sell.

The official synopsis of the movie reads,

"Stamford developer Elli works on acquiring a beachfront property in Sand Dollar Cove, a quaint Connecticut beach town, but falls for the town's charm and property owner in the process."

The book by Nancy Naigle on which the movie is based, sets the town of Sand Dollar Cove in North Carolina. While most of the shooting locations of the movie are actually around the state of Connecticut.

1) Noank, Connecticut, USA

Most of Sand Dollar Cove was filmed in Noank, Connecticut, which stands for the fictional town of Sand Dollar Cove. Noank, a historic village in Groton, is known for its old architecture and local businesses.

The Sand Dollar Cafe scenes were filmed at Carson's Store, while the seafood restaurant where Brody and Elli meet is Ford's Lobsters. The fair scene with the Ferris wheel was shot at Noank's town dock near the Latham Chester Museum. Scenic drone shots were taken across Noank and nearby Groton.


2) Milford, Connecticut, USA

Milford is a city that is set beside the sea in New Haven County, Connecticut. The city before the English invasion was occupied by the Paugusset indigenous tribe. It is filled with scenic natural locations, including sandy beaches and resorts. The Walnut Beach in Milford is the place that becomes the Sand Dollar pier. The pier was not actually damaged by any storm, but rather was CGI-edited for the movie.


3) Stonington, Connecticut, USA

Located in New London County, Stonington is a town located near the villages of Wequetequock and Pawcatuck. Walter Palmer, one of the first Puritan English settlers arrived in Wequetequock, while the English negotiator with the indigenous folks arrived in Pawcatuck, where he constructed a trading house in 1649.

The shot in Sand Dollar Cove of the meeting with the Mayor is a shot of the Stonington Town Clerk. Brody's 51-foot Yawl boat sailing was footaged in the Stonington Harbor Marina.


4) Mystic, Connecticut, USA

The Mystic Village surrounds Stonington and Groton is a coastal area that serves as a major seaport of Connecticut. The Mystic Seaport has the biggest maritime museum in the entire United States, with an antique ship collection, having harbored ships back from 1974.

The Mystic River is a key scenic element in the movie, flowing beside Mystic village, known for its fisheries. In the 19th century, it was an important port, and the Morgan Point Lighthouse, featured in the film, was built by the federal government in 1831. It now functions as a private residence where some scenes were filmed from a boat.
