After a limited theatrical release on August 16, The Deliverance hit Netflix on August 30. The supernatural thriller, directed by Lee Daniels, has made it to Netflix after an elaborate bidding war that included seven studios, including the likes of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Miramax. The deal was reported to be worth upwards of $65 million, which is already a profit on the movie’s overall budget of $30 million.
The movie stars the likes of Glenn Close and Andra Day. The official synopsis reads:
“An Indiana family discovers strange, demonic occurrences that convince them and their community that the house is a portal to hell.”
Set in Indiana, the movie was mostly shot in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a range of locations used. It centers on a single mother of three, Ebony Jackson, whose new home is seen possessed by a range of spirits, leading to terror in the entire community.

The filming took place across a range of locations in Pittsburgh. Said to be based on true events, director Lee Daniels reportedly invited an apostle to bless the film set with daily prayers.
Most notably, filming took place at a studio at 1310 Beulah Road, Churchill Crossings, with locations across East Pittsburgh being utilized for the exterior shots. Further, Taylor Motel, which is situated at the 1110 Lincoln Highway in North Versailles, was also utilized. A range of other locations have also featured prominently in The Deliverance.
Various Pittsburgh suburbs
The Deliverance includes a range of school scenes. All of them were shot at the Wilkinsburg High School, which is located at 747 Wallace Avenue. Furthermore, the hospital scenes featured in the movie were shot at AGH Suburban, which is located at 100 South Jackson Avenue.
Similarly, the various church scenes featured in the movie were shot at the Trinity AME Zion Church and East Liberty Presbyterian Church. Both are located at 116 South Highland Avenue. Hidy’s Cafe at 115 West Braddock Avenue was also used for various cafe scenes in the movie. However, the establishment has since been reported to have closed.
Finally, the NxStage Kidney Care Facility was also used as a filming location for The Deliverance. It is located at 3623 William Penn Highway, in Monroeville.

A range of popular tourist attractions around Pittsburgh were also seen in the movie. This includes the McKees Rocks Bridge, which is located on the Ohio River. Further, surrounding areas such as Munson Avenue and Ella Street were also used.
The Deliverance also got a boost to its budget with a range of financial benefits being offered by the Pittsburgh Film Office. The movie has largely opened to positive reviews and has been reported to have earned close to $100 million already. Of course, that figure might include its buyout of more than $65 million.
