About Great White Summer
Great White Summer is produced by Nick Budabin, Matt Elkind, David Gioiella, and Mark Littman. It features AJ Salerno, Greg Skomal, Heather Doyle, Jerry Evans, Dante Salerno, Sherry Salerno, Drew Taylor, Shred Hathorne, and Chris Fischer.
The official synopsis for Great White Summer reads:
"Nature, culture, and human life collide, with sheer survival at stake as sharks, surfers, scientists and society fight for everything they value. In Great White Summer, quiet Cape Cod coastal towns struggle with increasing threats from a growing shark population, and the bad blood growing within their own community."
It continues:
"Six months after a fatal 2018 shark attack, the locals on Cape Cod are grappling with how to proceed as the next busy summer season looms. The story that follows is set in a very specific time and place, but with themes that are universal."
The filmmakers also noted that the 1-hour and 19-minute film was inspired by the positive reception of their previous film Chi-Town. Talking about their willingness to continue their tradition, they mention:
"We were determined to continue in the verité tradition - shooting observationally as a tiny unit. We set out to render full characters who felt more than one way about complex issues. Each person brings their own perspective and there is conflict over how best to love this place they call home."
