Xaviar Babudar, the notorious Kansas City Chiefs superfan turned bank robber, is the subject of the upcoming true-crime documentary ChiefsAholic: A Wolf in Chiefs Clothes, which arrives on Prime Video on December 24.

Popularly known as ChiefsAholic, a die-hard supporter of The Kansas City Chiefs, a celebrated franchise in the NFL, Babudar committed a series of crimes starting in 2022.

ChiefsAholic was arrested in 2023. The arrest sent shockwaves into the NFL community after they learned the real truth about this superfan. As per KSHB 41, Xaviar Babudar is incarcerated at FCI Greenville, in Greenville, Illinois.


Who is Xaviar Babudar and what did he do?

Xaviar Babudar, a Kansas City, Missouri resident, rose to fame as a well-known super fan of The Kansas City Chiefs, as per TOI. Also popularly known as ChiefsAholic, the former would dress head to toe in a gray wolf suit and attend every Chiefs game as per ESPN. He presented himself as a diligent and giving bachelor while hiding his true character as a robber.

Babudar started his crime spree in March 2022, which lasted until late 2023, as per TOI. His crime spree started with a robbery in Oklahoma. ChiefsAholic also conducted several armed robberies across seven states starting in March 2022.

When found guilty of armed robbery, the superfan was initially arrested on December 16, 2022, as per TOI but soon released on bond in February 2023. However, after winning $100,000 from two successful bets on the Chiefs, he cut off his GPS to flee but was re-arrested in July 2023.

As per court documents and ESPN, Babudar could attend every Chiefs game and grow his ChiefsAholic persona with the funds he made from the armed robberies. As per ESPN, Babudar entered a guilty plea in February 2024 and admitted that he stole more than “$800,000 in 11 robberies across 7 states and laundering the proceeds through casinos.”

In total, he admitted to :

  • One count of money laundering
  • One count of bank robbery
  • One count of transporting stolen property across state lines

As per ESPN, Babudar’s attorney Matthew Merryman also claimed that his client is a gambling addict and this addiction fueled his stealing habits.


Arrest

Xaviar Babudar was arrested on July 7, 2023, in Lincoln, California as per ESPN. After pleading guilty to the aforementioned crimes, he was sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison without parole and three years of supervised release.

At the court filing, his attorney argued that Babudar should get a 10-year jail sentence to allow him to mend his mistakes. As per his defense, his actions were driven by gambling addiction and personal issues. However, the prosecutors alleged that his actions were because he wanted fame, therefore he committed his long list of crimes.

Xaviar Babudar is “required to pay $532,455 in restitution and forfeit property,” as per ESPN. The convict also has to return an autographed painting of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, which he purchased at a charity auction and is now in the possession of the Kansas City FBI. He was also ordered to pay $10.8 million to the Bixby teller, whom Babdur threatened with a gun.

According to a September 5, 2024 report by ESPN, Xaviar Babudar is incarcerated at the Greenville Federal Penitentiary in Illinois as he awaits sentencing at Leavenworth Federal Prison in Kansa.
