The Sharknado franchise, which began in 2013, has released five entertaining films. A Syfy network offering, Sharknado is a sci-fi comedy that parodies horror and disaster movies. The sequels include Sharknado 2: The Second One, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, and The Last Sharknado: It's About Time. Sharknado 3, released in 2015, featured various superstars.
This included the likes of Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Cassie Scerbo, Bo Derek, and Mark McGrath. However, among the range of familiar actors in the movie, was popular author and conservative commentor Ann Coulter, who played the role of the Vice President of the United States, Sonia Buck.
Although a cameo, Ann Coulter is only one of the highly unlikely cameos that have been seen in the Sharknado franchise. Here, we attempt to trace her life, as well as the kind of achievements she has managed in her career thus far.
The multi-talented Ann Coulter is a media pundit, author, syndicated columnist, and lawyer
Ann Hart Coulter is an American conservative media pundit, author, and lawyer. She rose to fame back in the 1990s as a media pundit, largely due to her stark criticism of the Bill Clinton administration. She has also written a range of political books, including High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton.
Further, her journalism has also been featured multiple times in the Universal Press Syndicate, with her having written a total of 13 books thus far in her career. As per her biography on Britannica, she graduated from the University of Michigan in 1988, after which she worked as a law clerk for Judge Pasco Bowman II of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in Kansas City.
She then practiced corporate law in New York, before moving to Washington, D.C. Ann Coulter has also previously worked for the United States Senate Judiciary Committee, before becoming a litigator with the Center for Individual Rights.
Coulter has also been a speaker and has made innumerable appearances on television, radio shows, and college campuses. She is known to have amassed an overall net worth of around half a million, with a range of her speaking gigs revolving around sensitive topics such as modern conservatism, gay marriage, and American liberalism.
She has also appeared on the Fox News Satire series The ½ Hour News Hour.
What role did Ann Coulter play in Sharknado 3?
The now-62-year-old celebrity was seen playing the role of Sonia Buck, who was tasked with managing the kind of international crises that had occurred in the movie. The franchise revolves around shark-filled tornadoes that cause havoc in the community, with the crux of the responsibility for disaster management falling on the vice president’s shoulders.
In the movie, Ann Coulter was seen giving out a range of executive orders. This included an order which revolved around building a fence around the country, to keep not just the sharks out, but also ‘illegals.’ Coulter’s character played off her real-life persona, as fans saw her in the role of a provocative political figure.
Coulter herself said the following about her role, suggesting that she had a ball of a time shooting the movie:
"There were no actual sharks, or models of sharks, used during filming. So we were all running from nothing,"
Coulter is a major political figure and has thus far not acted in any other project, in addition to Sharknado 3.
