On June 16, American actor Armie Hammer appeared for an exclusive and rare interview with his friend Tyler Ramsey on the latter’s Painful Lessons podcast and got candid about the allegations of multiple cases of emotional abuse, s*xual assaults, and cannibalism, which first emerged in 2021.
“People called me a cannibal, and everyone believed them. They’re like, ‘Yep, that guy ate people.’ Like what? What are you talking about? Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people! How am I going to be a cannibal?! It was bizarre,” the 37-year-old stated.
Armie Hammer also addressed the assault and abuse claims and shared that it was like a “neutron bomb” went off in his life. He mentioned how “a lot of times” he couldn’t “take this [the hate] anymore” and even tried to end his own life.
“I was standing at the shore and I swam out really far and just lying there… a half-a*sed suicide attempt. But I thought I couldn’t do that to my kids,” the Call Me By Your Name star added.
Armie Hammer has two kids whom he shares with his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers.
Armie Hammer’s former wife is a host and a businesswoman
Actor Armie Hammer and TV personality Elizabeth met each other in Los Angeles in 2006 through a mutual friend. Later, they tied the knot in May 2010 and had two children, daughter Harper (born in December 2014) and son Ford (born in January 2017).
However, in July 2020, the pair announced their separation and exactly after three years, they got divorced.
For those unaware, Elizabeth Chambers is the founder and CEO of the Texas-based retail chain Bird Bakery. She is also a host and judge on the Food Network and regularly contributes to the Cooking Channel and the Today Show.
In April 2024, she launched her own reality TV series Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise where she shared how her ex-husband left her and their kids in the Cayman Islands in early 2020 to go work on a project in California with a friend—something which eventually led to irreconcilable differences and split.
“He was the worst. My heart was broken in nine million pieces, and I still drove him to the airport,” she recalled during her show.
However, the 41-year-old mentioned how the kids shared a healthy and beautiful relationship with their father.
“They have – thank God – no idea about what is going on. My children are visibly happy. They should think that their dad is a superhero. And to be fair, he has been to them. He’s been the best he can be,” she added.
She further added how she stayed back in the Caymans to “fiercely protect” her children and refused to “speak negatively” about Armie Hammer to the press, or the kids.
“Because nobody wants a daughter with daddy issues, and nobody wants a son with daddy issues,” Chambers stated.
Presently, Elizabeth Chambers is in a relationship with a physio and wellness therapist Ricardas Kazinec.
Armie Hammer is now “grateful” for the experiences in the last few years
On Sunday, Armie Hammer appeared on Tyler Ramsey’s podcast Painful Lessons and opened up about the experiences and controversies he faced over the last few years.
“Whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I’m now at a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it. I’m actually now at a place where I’m really grateful for it because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me, I didn’t feel good,” 'The Lone Ranger' actor stated.
Armie Hammer further continued by saying:
“I never felt satisfied. I never had enough. I never was in a place where I was happy with myself where I had self-esteem. I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to give myself self-validation but I had this job where I was able to get it from so many people that I never had to learn how to give it to myself.”
The Social Network star got involved in a scandal in early 2021 when at least three women came forward accusing him of emotional abuse, s*xual coercion, and exhibiting weird fetishes and cannibalistic desires.
Back then, Armie Hammer called the allegations “bullsh*t” yet lost out on work, including getting dropped from the 2022 rom-com Shotgun Wedding and the Godfather series The Offer. He was also dropped by his agency WME.
He addressed the misconduct allegations saying that they were life-altering and claiming that they made him suicidal. However, he sought therapy and is now reportedly in a better place. As for the cannibalism claims, he called them "hilarious."
Hammer told Ramsey that the accusations caused the "death" of his ego and acting career, which he said is “nowhere now.” However, he plans to write a screenplay to create his “own sandbox.”
Notably, in 2022, a documentary was released titled House of Hammer surrounding the accusations. In February 2023, he broke his silence via an interview with Air Mail where he claimed that all his s*xual relationships were “consensual,” and revealed how he was a victim of assault when he was a teenager.
