Actor Deepak Dobriyal starred as inspector Ram Charan Pandey in Netflix's Sector 36, a crime drama loosely based and inspired by the real events of the Nithari Killings (2005-2006).
The plot of Sector 36 released on September 13, deals with a notorious and psychotic serial killer named Prem Singh, who is a household help at the infamous businessman Balbir 'Bassi' Singh's home. In the film, Prem Singh kills several kids, his uncle, and also a call girl named Chumki Ghosh.
Later in Sector 36, Prem Singh confesses to the killings to Officer Ram Charan Pandey and SP Saikia. Prem Singh also reveals that he sold his victims' organs to a compounder and engaged in organ trafficking, apart from ra*ing them, killing them, and dismembering their bodies.
Officer Ram Charan Pandey who goes to find more evidence in the accused Prem Singh's village, related to the same case is slain by men hired by Bassi and DSP Rastogi at the end of the film.
Ram Charan Pandey was suspended in between the investigation
In Sector 36, Ram Charan Pandey is seen as a corrupt police officer at the beginning of the film, who does not pay any heed to the disappearances of several children. However, during a festival when his daughter is almost abducted, he tries to chase the kidnapper but fails.
Later, he takes the investigation seriously and while investigating the disappearance of Chumki Ghosh, Pandey visits Bassi’s residence for the first time to interrogate. Chumki Ghosh was seen last at Bassi’s home as per witnesses however, Bassi did not want to provide a statement and used his connections with the DSP to get Pandey out of his house.
After Prem Singh’s confession in Sector 36 about the multiple killings, he is arrested. His employer Balbir Singh was also arrested after the police found mortal remains inside and around his property in Sector 36. Pandey who wants to delve deeper into this case, is, however, dismissed from duty and replaced by Thakur, because of the corrupt law officials who want to fabricate and sugarcoat the truth.
DSP Rastogi suspends Ram because he knows if he is in charge of this investigation, Bassi will never get out of jail.
However, even after Pandey is removed from service, he decides to meet Prem Singh, the killer once more. He tells Prem that Bassi will not get him out of jail and Prem will be the only one to be arrested and convicted. Prem later reveals to Ram Charan Pandey about a CD that he had sent to his wife, which contains evidence against Bassi.
Ram Charan Pandey goes to Prem’s village to talk to his family after interrogating him. When Pandey gets hold of the disc Prem Singh mentioned, he is shocked and terrified by what's on it. Later, when he leaves Prem’s village and asks for a lift from strangers, a few people in a car agree to drop him.
As he hops into the front seat, beside the driver, the strangers ask him about his profession. Ram Charan Pandey doesn’t reveal much to them. However, in a matter of seconds one of the strangers takes out a picture of Pandey unfolds it and then they stab him multiple times and slit his throat.
Who kills Ram Charan Pandey in Sector 36?
Ram Charan Pandey is killed by people hired by DCP Rastogi and Bassi as stated above. His fellow officer, Shravan Kumar Pathak, betrays Pandey by telling Rastogi where Pandey went. Rastogi knew that he had to get rid of Pandey to prove Bassi innocent as Pandey had proof against Bassi, that could keep him in jail for multiple crimes.
Therefore, he was killed by hired assassins. The same assassins also killed the compounder previously in the film, who was an important person of interest in the same case and was allegedly involved with Prem Singh and Bassi in the organ trafficking trade.
After Pandey disappears at the end of the movie, Constable Bishnoi finds the identical CD that Pandey had previously obtained, which contains evidence to prove Bassi guilty. To avoid any difficulties, Bishnoi may choose to keep quiet or present the proof to the police, although we do not know for sure.
Sector 36 is now streaming on Netflix.
