Venom 4 has been a topic of discussion since the release of Venom: The Last Dance on October 25, 2024. Fans are curious about the possibilities of future projects in the Venom franchise, and writer and director of Venom: The Last Dance, Kelly Marcel, has provided some information.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on October 23, 2024, Marcel expressed eagerness to continue with the franchise while also stating that it was up to Sony to decide if something like that could happen. When asked if there will be a Venom 4, she said:
"You’d have to ask Sony. I don’t know. Yes, it is the end of a contract. We were asked to do three, we’ve delivered three, and who knows what the future holds."
She continued:
"I hope that we’ve laid groundwork for them in this third movie with other characters and other symbiotes and bad guys that they can run with, should they choose. But this is the last one for Venom and Eddie."
Kelly Marcel speaks about Venom 4 and more in a recent interview
In the interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Marcel stated that Venom: The Last Dance marked the end of their three-film contract with the company, which focused on Eddie and Venom. Additionally, as previously stated, she also mentioned that she kept the door open for future opportunities in the franchise (in the form of Venom 4) should Sony be interested in them.
She was also asked about the potential for a Venom spinoff if Venom 4 was ruled out, due to some unresolved plot points related to a specific character in Venom: The Last Dance in the interview. She was asked if that was something Marcel deliberately did for Sony to explore in the future. In response, she stated:
"We have definitely given it forethought, so we definitely know what those stories could be, should they want them. But they are a gift to the studio, yes."
Additionally, in the interview, she shared that it was very fun to be reunited with Andy Serkis who voiced Knull in the movie. Marcel shared that it felt like a full circle as Serkis had previously directed Venom 2.
How is Venom 3 performing among the masses?
Venom 3 is doing well in theaters, and film experts think the movie will be a global box office success. However, the film appears to be falling short when it comes to critical acclaim.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Venom 3 has garnered a low rating of 36 percent from critics, while it has achieved a more favorable average approval rating of 79 percent from the audience at the time of writing.
While most of the critics have negatively scrutinized the film on the platform, audience members have used words such as "great movie", "lots of fun", "funniest most endearing", and "best Venom movie ever" to describe it.
On another popular reviewing platform, Metacritic, the film has garnered mixed reviews, with the critics giving it a score of 41 out of 100. The audiences, on the other hand, have given it a 6.0 rating out of 10 on the platform.
Many dedicated Venom fans are eagerly awaiting positive news about Venom 4, particularly in light of Marcel's recent comments. However, it may take some time before they receive an official confirmation regarding the project, depending on whether Sony decides to move forward with it. In the meantime, Venom: The Last Dance is currently playing in theatres.
