With Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, prepping to film soon, it was announced that Lobo - the DC anti-hero / villain - has been confirmed to appear in the film. He will be played by none other than actor Jason Momoa who took to social media on December 30, 2024, to confirm that he will be playing the role. Prior to this, Momoa portrayed the DC superhero Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe.
How Lobo will fit into Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow remains to be seen as he wasn't originally a part of the comic book. The role has also been something Jason Momoa has been gunning to play for years as he has cited in the past that he is a huge fan of the character as well. The rumors of Momoa playing Lobo originally began in December, 2022.
Lobo's origins in the DC comics universe explored
Lobo was originally created by creators Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen. He made his debut in June, 1983, and first appeared in Omega Men #3. He is an intergalactic bounty hunter and a major foe of Superman as well. He is a Czarnian, an alien race in the DC universe, and is the last of his kind as well. He is known for having a not-so-nice tongue and is a known troublemaker within the DC universe.
The reason the bounty hunter is the last of his kind is because he is the one responsible for killing them all. Coming from the planet of Czarnia, before his birth it was a paradise that had not known about war, and its people lived in peace as well. Not only that, the Czarnians were known for being immortal as well. However, his birth changed it all.
His evil was so frightening as the nurse who gave birth to him was registered as one of the first mental patients on the planet after he bit off four of her fingers. Growing up, Lobo wanted more and his evil only grew with time. Toying with the idea of genocide, he set a swarm of lethal creatures on his people, killing them all while claiming it to be a "science project".
Through the years then, he became a bounty hunter traveling across the galaxies looking for a fight. Through his journey, Lobo came across Superman and became one of the hero's most iconic rogues.
