Venom 3, aka Venom: The Last Dance, is set to hit theaters on October 25, 2024. It will be the final film in the Venom saga. Alongside being the final film in the Venom series, the film will also introduce the big bad known as Knull in Marvel Comics, the god of symbiotes.
Knull's appearance in Venom 3 was teased in the film's final trailer, and following that, rumors started circulating that actor Norman Reedus would be portraying the character in the film. However, following the premiere, it has been confirmed that English actor Andy Serkis was cast in the role of Knull rather than Norman Reedus.
Andy Serkis is often known for playing CGI characters in films and has also been famous for the modern Planet of the Apes trilogy. He previously directed Venom: Let There Be Carnage, too, and also portrayed another Marvel villain, Ulysses Klaue, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In Venom 3, Andy Serkis will be joining actors Tom Hardy, Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Stephen Graham, Rhys Ifans, and more.
Venom 3 actor Andy Serkis' career explored
Andy Serkis is one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation. Studying visual arts and theater at Lancaster University, Serkis then made a change to acting after working in small productions during his first year. He also took on minor modules about visual graphics, and then in his third year his career as an actor began to shape.
Serkis' first big role was playing Smeagol/Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy where he used motion capture to portray the CGI character. From there on, a discussion in Hollywood was started where many critics argued that Serkis should have received an Academy Award nomination for his acting. This was due to his facial expressions and movements being used in the performance.
Since then, Serkis was known for revolutionizing acting with motion capture. He has portrayed many characters like King Kong in 2005's King Kong, Caesar in the modern Planet of the Apes Trilogy, and Snoke in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy films as well. Aside from that, he has portrayed many live-action roles too such as Ian Brady in Longford and Ian Dury in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.
Venom 3 wouldn't be Andy Serkis' first forte in the comic book genre. Before this, he portrayed Ulysses Klaue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman. He also directed Venom: Let There Be Carnage. However, while he is not directing Venom 3, he did contribute to it by playing Knull in the film.
Who is Venom 3's Knull?
In Marvel Comics, Knull is known as the God of Symbiotes and is an Eldritch God of Darkness as well. He resides between the sixth and seventh Cosmoses, but his peace is disturbed when the Celestials come knocking at his door and want him to be the King in the Black. However, Knull doesn't want to be in their control and beheads one of the Celestials with the Necrosword - the first Symbiote.
Following this, Knull then waged his war on the Light and he became one of the most feared beings in the universe. However, he was later stranded on an unknown planet when his Necrosword was stolen. He then experimented with his powers on the planet where he discovered he could bond with lesser creatures and then went on to conquer worlds.
Fans can check him out on the big screens as Venom 3 releases in cinemas on October 25.
