Who is Hannah John-Kamen from Thunderbolts*?

Hannah John-Kamen will reprise her role as Ava Starr, also known as Ghost, in Thunderbolts*. This is no surprise to fans, as her character's arc in Ant-Man and The Wasp left room for further exploration. Ava Starr’s molecular instability and ability to phase through objects, paired with her traumatic past, make her a compelling anti-hero for the upcoming movie.

John-Kamen, known for her roles in Ready Player One and The Stranger, first brought Ghost to life in 2018. Her performance in Ant-Man and The Wasp presented Ava Starr as a deeply tragic figure, shaped by personal loss and manipulated by larger forces.

Now, with Thunderbolts*, she will be joining a misfit team that includes Red Guardian (David Harbour), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). It will be interesting to see how Ghost's interactions with these strong personalities play out and how her unstable powers will be utilized in the film.

Exploring in detail about Thunderbolts* Ava Starr’s background

Ava Starr, the daughter of scientists Elihas and Catherine Starr, was born into a life filled with tragedy. Her father, a former colleague of Hank Pym, was expelled from S.H.I.E.L.D. after disagreements regarding quantum energy research. Determined to continue his work, Elihas attempted a risky experiment involving the Quantum Tunnel, which led to a devastating accident that claimed the lives of both Ava's parents.

In the years that followed the incident, Ava remained a young girl who had lost her parents and was always in severe physical discomfort due to her condition. Shield was a place she was brought to because they believed her special gifts could be of use to them. She was trained as a stealth operative and sent out on covert operations named Ghost.

But as time progressed, Ava came to terms with the fact that S.H.I.E.L.D. had forgotten ever about curing her but covering her with the blanket of rights and using her for their profits. This disappointment created a foundation and a driving force for how she eventually broke away from the organization, as well as her urge to seek a cure.

Ava’s life changes quite drastically in Ant-Man and The Wasp, when she discovers the Quantum Tunnel invented by Hank Pym and sets out to try and use it to help her condition. Of course, such aims bring her into conflict with Pym, Scott Lang (Ant-Man), and Hope Van Dyne (Wasp), due to Janet Van Dyne being trapped in the quantum realm for so long ravaging-yea, forming wanting for quantum energy which would endanger Janet's life.

Eventually, Janet calms down Ava for some time and goes to hide with her surrogate father Bill Foster.

Ava Starr’s powers and abilities to expect in Thunderbolts*

Ghost’s abilities arise from a quantum accident that caused her molecular structure to be altered. Perhaps one of her most well-known abilities is intangibility. She can pass through walls and human bodies with ease.

This is, however, more useful in combat situations as well as stealth missions since she can avoid direct attacks or enter heavily fortified areas without being noticed. Toning is often accompanied by post-visual elements like the rainbow of crystalline afterimages called ‘tonal’ and makes her powers visually pleasing.

Phasing along with her intangibility powers enhances Ghost’s striking abilities. In the face of her enemies, she is capable of additional striking power by phasing in and out of proportion. This ability also enhances her effectiveness in hand-to-hand battles.

She is shown to grab her step-father and throw him, showing how, albeit in pain, she can still pack a powerful punch in Ant-Man and The Wasp.

Additionally, Ghost can become invisible, which is another fundamental characteristic of her skills. Mullins can move in and out of viewers' line of sight and is therefore concealed from her adversaries. This comes in handy when taking enemies from behind and adds to her assassin title sporting her with a good arsenal of weapons and combat prowess.

This constant molecular instability of Ghost is the reason why the character suffers and will eventually lead to her demise. While still working for S.H.I.E.L.D., she was prevented from suffering this fate by the use of a quantum chamber designed by Bill Foster but this was just a temporary measure.

If anything, her violent and obsessive desire to solve a problem that is too challenging even for her dark will be a driving force in character development. It also brings out her character's emotional core within the Thunderbolts* team.

To fight, she uses different kinds of training such as muay Thai, kickboxing, and judo on top of her Quantum augmented power to defeat her enemies. It also makes her a great weapon in the hands of Thunderbolts due to her skills in spying and murdering, however, her volatility might be unbearable for the rest of the team.

For the unversed, Thunderbolts* is scheduled to release on May 2, 202.
