The production of Mortal Kombat 2 kicked off under the returning guidance of director Simon McQuoid, with Jeremy Slater crafting the script. Filming began on June 22, 2023, at Village Roadshow Studios in Gold Coast, Queensland, tapping Stephen F. Windon's expertise as cinematographer. The choice of location was strategic, leveraging the studio's advanced facilities to capture the intricate fight sequences and expansive set designs essential for the Mortal Kombat universe.

However, the filming process of Mortal Kombat 2 was temporarily halted in mid-July 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which paused many Hollywood productions. This lasted until mid-November 2023, delaying some of the film's critical battle scenes and special effects work. Once the strike concluded, the crew resumed work, wrapping up production in late January 2024.

The extensive post-production phase began immediately after filming concluded, focusing on special effects and digital enhancements to bring the supernatural elements of Mortal Kombat to life, adhering to the high expectations set by the franchise's fans.

Mortal Kombat 2 is set to release on October 24, 2025.
