Netflix’s live-action of the Avatar: The Last Airbender anime opened in February 2024 to reasonable success. Starring Gordon Cormier as Aang and Kiawentiio as Katara, the series has a 7.2 IMDb rating and did not necessarily capture the beauty of the original series.

Yet, there were plenty of positives, including the high-quality CGI and the way the series’ actors were able to recapture the essence of their animated series' counterparts. Avatar: The Last Airbender was renewed for two further seasons in March 2024, which fans hope will take things up a notch. With the extent of source material at the creators’ disposal, the series will continue to explore the Airbenders universe and is set to see a range of new faces being introduced as well.

Among them is that of Miya Cech, who will be seen playing the role of Toph Beifong. A fan-favorite character, Toph was an Earthbending master who discovers metalbending, and is blind from birth. Arguably one of the biggest roles of her career, Miya Cech still has an impressive portfolio and has previously starred in multiple Netflix offerings as well.

Miya Cech is merely 17 years old, and the role of Toph can potentially lead to worldwide fame. However, the actress has still been a regular on Netflix screens. She has previously played the younger version of Ali Wong’s character in both Beef and Always Be My Maybe. Further, as a child actress, she also starred in Nickelodeon’s The Astronauts.

Miya Cech made her debut in the industry via the American series Hawaii Five-0, in which she featured as the young version of Kono Kalakaua in one single episode. Since then, she has been seen in minor roles in series such as Arrow, The Darkest Minds, American Horror Story, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?

However, it appears that her move to Netflix, which kickstarted via Always Be My Maybe, has led to consistent success for the teenage actress. It has led to roles in series such as Young Rock and A Great Divide.

However, none of those roles resulted in long-term work, which now seems set to change with her role in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Season 2 of the series is set for a release in 2025, although no date has been allotted yet. The news was revealed as part of the annual Geeked Week event from Netflix, which also resulted in a feet-closeup of Toph, teasing Cech’s eventual appearance on the Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Furthermore, the role also acts as further evidence of the impressive progress Cech has made during her career. Born in Tokyo in March 2007, Cech was adopted when she was five weeks old, and raised in North Carolina. She was the third of four adopted children and started off her career as a child model.

Since then, however, the actress has gone strength to strength, and is now set to be seen in arguably her most major role till date. She was last seen as Ellie Licht in 2023's A Great Divide, after starring as Kym Chang Cohen in You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.

The latter was a streaming movie, and Miya Cech will now undoubtedly be thrilled to become a part of one of the biggest live-action animated franchises on Netflix, in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
