Harvey Dent will be in Joker: Folie à Deux, confirmed by the trailer released by Warner Bros. Pictures on July 23, 2024. Dent's voice is heard at the start of the trailer while Arthur is in a police van. Harvey Dent has been a very crucial character in the Batman universe. The inclusion of the super-villain "Two-Face" will add up to this massive chaos.
The first Joker film redefined the villain's origin, and Joker 2 will feature Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, with the possibility of more returning characters.
Joker: Folie à Deux can witness Harvey Dent's turning into "Two-Face"
With the trailer, viewers got to know what Joker has been up to this far, and how much it has impacted pushing the world towards the edge. During the beginning scenes of the trailer, Harvey Dent's television voice is in the background. This confirms that he still hasn't encountered the gruesome incident that turns off his sanity.
He says,
"They believe Arthur Fleck to be some kind of martyr. Well, he's not. He's a monster."
With the trial scene in the court, we realize that Harvey Dent is one of the people to charge Arthur Fleck for his crimes. Before turning into Two-Face, Harvey was the former district attorney of Gotham City. He was one of the heroes of Gotham City with an obsession to catch criminals and bring justice.
But everything changes when in a chase, a mob boss named Sal Maroni throws acid on him burning half of his face. This drives him towards insanity and he transforms into his alter-ego, who makes decisions with the flip of a coin.
In the trial scene, Joker can be seen banging the judge's head with the gavel. This signifies that the entire law structure in Gotham has been crushed underneath the screaming laughs.
Harvey Dent had its last appearance in 2008 Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. Aaron Eckart gave an iconic performance as Harvey Den, aka, the Two-Face, that makes people wonder who would be playing this role next. There have been speculations on Reddit that Bradley Cooper perfectly suits this role.
A Reddit user @AccurateAce has written,
"Based on completely unsubstantiated speculation that I was linking together as a possibility. Bradley Cooper served as an Executive Producer on both Joker films as well as portraying a character in his directorial debut in the A Star is Born film remake which he also co-wrote and Executive Produced as well."
They continued,
"Phoenix and Bradley are similar in age and I can easily see him as DA Harvey Dent in Todd Phillips universe. We know very little of Joker: Folie à Deux. Could a surprise casting like this be possible? If Harvey doesn't have a substantial role, it may have been possible to shoot these scenes quietly. But we're they? Who knows. Would be an interesting surprise for sure."
While others speculate the British actor Harry Lawtey is best to play the character. However, there has not been any official confirmation of who will play Harvey Dent in Joker: Folie à Deux.
Other Batman characters we hope to see in Joker: Folie à Deux
If Joker (2019), in a subplot, young Bruce Wayne was with his parents Thomas and Martha. The scene outside the gate strongly hinted that Artur Fleck might be Thomas' illegitimate son.
In Joker: Folie à Deux, we see Bruce Wayne’s parents being shot by a man in a clown mask, leading to Bruce becoming Batman. The film also shows Joker’s supporters holding signs calling Harvey Dent a clown, hinting at a significant role for Dent and the possible return of some actors from previous films.
An article from Deadline published on September 7, 2022, announced that Cathrine Keener, the actress from Get Out will be joining Joker: Folie À Deux. We also see a glimpse of Brendan Gleeson as a police guard, in one of the scenes.
