Calvin Broadus Jr., professionally known as Snoop Dogg, is a rap legend credited as one of the pioneers of West Coast Hip-Hop. The Doggystyle hitmaker has remained popular even after many years in the entertainment industry.

This could be ascribed to his style, music, and personality. The celebrated singer made his acting debut in 1995, appearing in a documentary about hip-hop culture, The Show.

He returned to acting in 1998, after the release of his third studio album, and featured in movies like Half Baked, Ride, and Wizard of Oz. He featured in blockbuster movies like Training Day and Baby Boy.

He landed a big acting role in Starsky & Hutch as a supporting character and has continued to star in movies, with his latest projects being The Underdoggs, Piece by Piece, and The Garfield Movie, released in 2024.

The crime thriller tells the story of a rookie LAPD officer, Jayke Hoyt (Ethan Hawks), paired with a veteran detective, Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington), on his first day as an LAPD officer. As the story progresses, Hoyt's perception of the highly-regarded officer, Harris, begins to dwindle as he discovers Officer Harris is not as honest and law-abiding as everyone perceives him to be.

In the movie, Snoop Dogg plays the role of Blue, a crippled drug dealer. The movie was released to critical acclaim and won an Academy Award, an American Film Institute Award, and an Alma Award, amongst others.

Dolemite is My Name is a biographical comedy film that pays homage to filmmaker Rudy Ray Moore. The movie stars Eddie Murphy, Keegan-Michael Key, Snoop Dogg, Craig Robinson, and Chris Rock, among others.

The film is set in the 70s' and narrates the struggles of an up-and-coming black artist, Rudy Ray Moore (Eddie Murphy), whose desire to become a star in Hollywood finally pays off despite being turned down multiple times by those he reached out to for help.

In the comedy film, Snoop Dogg plays the character Roj, a radio station DJ who denies Rudy the opportunity to play his songs on air. The Netflix original, released on October 4, 2019, earned notable awards and nominations, including two Golden Globe Award nominations and a Black Reel Award, amongst others.


3. Turbo

This Dreamworks animated film was released on May 20, 2013, and stars the voices of Snoop Dogg, Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Paul Giamatti, amongst others.

The cartoon follows the story of a Garden Snail, Theo (Ryan Reynolds), whose ambition of competing in the Indianapolis 500 race finally comes true, after he gains superspeed from a reaction with Nitrous oxide.

In Turbo, the American rapper Snoop Dogg voiced the character of Smoove Move, a flexible and lean snail with a chill and calm personality. This animation received six Annie Award nominations, a Golden Trailer Award nomination, and a Black Reel Award, among other awards.


4. Baby Boy

Baby Boy stars Tyrese Gibson, Taraji P. Henson, Snoop Dogg, Omar Gooding, and Ving Rhames, amongst others. The coming-of-age drama released on June 27, 2001, features love, redemption, betrayal, and commitment themes.

The plot follows Joseph Summers (Tyrese Gibson), a.k.a. Jody, a motorcycle mechanic who is faced with the realities of hood life in Los Angeles as he struggles to become a committed partner and father to his love interest, Yvette (Taraji P. Henson), and their son, Jojo.

The plot unfolds as Jody deals with his infidelity while trying to protect Jojo and Yvette from the threat imposed by Rodney, Yvette's ex-lover who is a convicted criminal (played by Snoop Dogg).

Baby Boy got three NAACP Image Awards nominations and ten nominations at the 2002 Black Reel Awards.

The American comedy film is centered on the life of a Poet, Moondog (Matthew McConaughey), whose reckless lifestyle makes him drift apart from his wife, Minnie (Isla Fisher), and daughter, Heather (Stefania LaVie Owen).

As the plot thickens, Moondog tries to win the trust of his daughter again while trying to fight for Minnie's estate after her tragic death in a car accident.

The Doggystyle crooner plays Lingerie, Moondog's friend who also had a secret affair with Minnie. The comedy film has been nominated for the Florida Film Critics Circle Awards, the Gijon International Film Festival, and the SXSW Film Festival, among other awards.
