The finals of the Copa America saw Colombian singer Maluma clashing with Argentina fans. The Copa America finals took place on Sunday, July 14, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida and saw Argentina emerge victorious courtesy of a Lautaro Martinez strike in the 112th minute. Present at the VIP box enjoying the final was Columbia's Juan Luis Londoño Arias, professionally known as Maluma.
After the game, which saw his home country take the loss, a visibly agitated Maluma stood on the edge of the VIP box stand and shouted at the Argentine fans in the box next to him while being held back by an acquaintance. The Argentine fans also returned the favor to the singer by waving, laughing, and shouting at him while standing on the edge of their box.
The video of Maluma shouting at Argentine fans immediately went viral on social media. Many netizens were quick to remind the Columbian singer that it was Argentina who won the final and not Columbia. Some even reminded the singer which direction the airport was. A few fans requested the singer to put his head down and take the loss.
A few people pointed out that the Latin American singer's behavior was "embarrassing" and asked him to go back home. Some even noted that the Argentine fans were making fun of the singer while being quite unbothered themselves. Here are a few X (formerly known as Twitter) reactions in this regard:
"He's the only arguing Argentinians are making fun of him 😭 Unbothered as always," said one X user.
"Girl calm down about soccer and worry about your last album’s low sales…." trolled another social media user.
"oh maluma just put your head down and take the L and go, it’s not worth arguing 😭," advised a third social media user.
"That’s embarrassing," noted one X user.
"He’s mad Colombia lost! Time to go home buddy 😭😭," added another social media user.
However, a few users actually agreed with the Columbian singer and thought that the whole tournament was "rigged" and that Columbia was allegedly "robbed". Here are a few X reactions in this regard:
"Another Mickey Mouse win for Argentina," said one user.
"It was a rigged tournament we all know that Maluma," added another X user.
"Well done, after they ROBBED Colombia on their faces," thought a third X user.
"maluma is more attractive than any argentine," one user thought.
"Literally all of us rn 😭," supported yet another social media user.
Maluma enjoyed the Copa America final from a VIP box
Maluma arrived at the Copa America final sporting a custom-made Columbia jersey with his name printed out on the back. The singer's Instagram story showcased himself and his friend landing in Miami in a private jet and immediately dancing to the tune of a potential Columbian victory.
In another story, the singer was seen balancing a football on his head while entering the Hard Rock Stadium. The Hawai hitmaker was seated in a VIP Box alongside Columbian singer Ryan Castro and footballer Daniel Muñoz, who missed the final due to a red card procured in the semi-final against Uruguay.
However, some fans could not afford the same luxury. The match was delayed for an hour due to an influx of fans without tickets at the Hard Rock Stadium. The commotion forced law enforcement to arrest around 10 to 15 people and escort the rest out of the stadium. The game was delayed until 9:15 p.m. ET.
The Copa America finals saw Argentina lift the prestigious trophy for a record 16 times. The back-to-back Copas and a World Cup sprinkled in between, set the perfect stage for legends of the game like Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi to potentially bid adieu to international football. The former announced last November that this was his last international tournament.
