About Katy Perry's producer Dr. Luke and Kesha's lawsuit
In 2014, Kesha sued her former producer Dr. Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) in Los Angeles and New York, claiming he drugged and s*xually assaulted her in 2005, and tormented her for a decade. Dr. Luke countersued for defamation, accusing her of fabricating the rape allegations to escape her recording contract.
However, in 2023, both parties arrived at a settlement.
Katy Perry has been facing backlash from the internet given most of the songs from her latest album 143 are produced by Dr. Luke. Reportedly, Katy was a part of Kesha's r*pe lawsuit against the producer wherein in her 2017 unsealed deposition the singer stated that she "felt pressured" to support Kesha.
Katy Perry's Lifetimes video under the radar for environmental damage
Katy Perry released the music video for her latest track Lifetimes on August 8, 2024, wherein the singer is seen swimming, partying, and spending time on the environmentally protected beach and sensitive dunes of the S’Espalmador in Spain’s Balearic Islands.
On August 14, the Environment Department of the Balearic Islands issued a press release stating that the production company behind Katy's music video did not obtain proper authorization to film at the protected site. Additionally, the Environment Department is investigating the possibility that the music video might have caused environmental damage to the beach.
A spokesperson for Katy Perry told PEOPLE:
"The local video production company assured us that all necessary permits for the video were secured. We have since learned that one permit was in process, although we were given verbal authority to go ahead."
Moreover, the department mentioned that filming the music video was not a "crime against the environment" and that the production of the video could be authorized via bona fide channels.
Katy Perry will perform at the MTV VMAs for the first time after 2017 when she hosted and performed at the awards. She has won five VMAs in the span of her career the first three for best collaboration and best special effects for E.T. and video of the year for Firework.
