Anderson .Paak is bringing along The Free Nationals, an R&B group, as well as Maurice Brown and Gawd on the tour. The singer released his second studio album, Malibu, on January 15, 2016 via Steel Wool, OBE, Art Club, and Empire labels.
Critically acclaimed with a Best Urban Contemporary Album nomination at the 2017 Grammy Awards, the album remains the singer's most successful album till date, having secured a spot within the top twenty position on the Dutch album chart and two gold and a silver certification.
Anderson .Paak spoke about the album in an interview with Gaffa Magazine after the release of his album in 2016, stating, in response to a question on the difference in vocals between his first album, Venice, and Malibu:
"There was some time of exploration and I feel like Malibu was one of the more cohesive projects of mine and vocally is probably the main reason for that. Even though we travelled along different elements of funk, soul, hip-hop, house and disco, the vocals are what I think ties everything together. That’s what I found with this project."
The singer continued:
"With Malibu I definitely wanted to find something more consistent on it as far as vocally.... I was able to construct Malibu around a few tunes that had these more concrete vocals to ‘em and everything came together towards the end, especially after working with Dre, Knxwledge and other people. I had a clear vision vocally of where I should be."
Aside from his upcoming tour, Anderson .Paak recently released his second collaborative album with Knxwledge. Titled Why Lawd?, the album was released on June 7, 2024, and has so far charted at number 81 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
