The Latin music icon, Bad Bunny is set to join Darren Aronofsky-directed crime thriller film - Caught Stealing. Bunny is the latest artist to join the movie cast which includes the Dune 2 star, Austin Butler.
The upcoming film will be based around the storyline of the 2004 novel, Caught Stealing, written by Charlie Huston. Austin is in the lead role as Hank Thompson and will star next to Zoë Kravitz as the female lead, Yvonne. As per Deadline's August 27 report, Bad Bunny's role in the movie is yet to be revealed.
The star cast of the crime thriller also features Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Regina King, and Will Brill. As per IMDb, the story will be built around the crime-saturated New York City of the 1990s. It will follow, Austin's character, as an ex-baseball player who ends up entangled in a struggle for survival amidst the city's criminal underbelly.
The details about the beginning of production or a speculated release date have yet to be revealed. Caught Stealing's original writer, Charlie Huston will be adapting the screenplay for the movie himself.
Darren Aronofsky's Caught Stealing will not be Bad Bunny's first film appearance
Darren Aronofsky's upcoming thriller, Caught Stealing, will not be the first time Bad Bunny appears on the silver screen. The rapper made his film debut in 2021 with the Justin Lin-directed blockbuster, Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga.
Although he has yet to play a lead role, Bunny has appeared in a total of four films, including:
1) Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga (2021)
Bad Bunny had a small cameo in Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga, which came out on May 19, 2021. The rapper appears as a lookout during the 1989 flashback minutes before the climatic race between Dom and Jackob. His trap song, De Museo, is also part of the movie soundtrack.
2) Te Deseo Lo Mejor - I Wish You the Best (2021)
The 2021 animated short film was based around the popular kids show, The Simpsons, and featured Bunny playing himself. It premiered on the rapper's YouTube on December 24, 2021.
The short film follows Homer being disconnected from his family because of his phone addiction. Homer later realizes the importance of his wife and children and has the rapper break his phone while reconciling with his family. Bunny's 2020 hit song, Te Deseo Lo Mejor, played in the background through most of the 136-second film.
3) Bullet Train (2022)
Bunny appeared as an assassin called, The Wolf, in the action-comedy film, Bullet Train, which was released on August 5, 2022. The rapper is all-glammed up in a white suit in the movie and has a thrilling yet comedic fight scene with Brad Pitt's character, Ladybug. The short scene ends with The Wolf dying after the knife he threw at Ladybug deflects and stabs his heart.
4) Cassandro (2023)
Bad Bunny's latest movie appearance was in the Roger Ross Williams-directed film, Cassandro, which came out on September 15, 2023. He played the role of Felipe, one of the potential love interests and assistant of the lead - Cassandro - played by Gael García Bernal. The rapper shared his first on-screen kiss in the biographical drama film.
Bad Bunny also debuted on television in 2018 with the Chris Maguire-produced reality TV show - Sugar. The rapper appeared as himself on Saturday Night Live (SNL) in 2021. He also joined the cast for Narcos: Mexico in 2021 and played the role of Everardo Arturo 'Kitty' Paez.
