A court filing by singer-songwriter Kehlani’s ex-partner and baby daddy, Javaughn Young-White, has emerged online, where he has made several allegations against the Cloud 19 songstress.
For instance, Javaughn has accused Kehlani of being part of a “cult” and allowing a female adult member of it "to take bath" with their five-year-old daughter Adeya "while being under the influence of psychedelic drugs.” He also claimed the former PopLyfe member often left Adeya under the care of such “cult” members when she was on tour, and that she reportedly called them “Messiah.”
Another serious allegation brought forth by Young-White is that Kehlani reportedly once described their daughter’s spirit as “one of her wives in a past life.” The guitarist also claimed how Adeya often slept in the same bed and was reportedly left alone with the “cult” members in the bedroom.
“I have been trying to express my fear, anger, and concern to Kehlani about our daughter’s living environment… However, instead of addressing my feelings, she resorts to disparaging me online to her millions of social media followers,” the now-viral court document read.
In the wake of all the now-viral accusations, Kehlani took to Instagram on November 14 and issued a clarification to one of them. She claimed that her past messages were taken out of context and she never really described her daughter’s spirit as “one of her wives in a past life.” The singer-songwriter also shared how she would be fighting all the “monstrous” allegations in court.
Exploring further Kehlani’s response to the viral allegations
On Thursday, Kehlani jumped on Instagram and shared screenshots of the seemingly actual texts exchanged with her former boyfriend and baby daddy, Javaughn Young-White, dating back to October 15, 2021.
“A light-hearted conversation with who I consider family about a silly reading I got became horribly twisted and I can’t stand by and watch it anymore. Here’s how the conversation actually went and the rest is left for court. This is beyond. Can’t be silent about this issue anymore,” she captioned her post.
It also comprised an image statement, where the Grammy nominee mentioned how she was “connected” with an older woman who shared with her “past life readings,” which the singer then shared as a “light-hearted recap” with her child’s father. She clarified how, at the time, they both laughed at it and didn’t take things seriously.
“To have those screenshots then doctored, the rest of messages left out, to make me seem like I consider myself to be in an inappropriate relationship with my daughter... is the most heartbreak[ing] thing I’ve ever f**king heard. I’ve been silent, I’ve taken the public beating. I've been addressing all of these things where I should, in court,” the singer wrote.
The 29-year-old then expressed her disappointment that social media users only had “access” to “one side” of things and judged her based on that. She further doubled down that she never considered herself to be in an “inappropriate relationship” with her child.
As for the DM screenshots shared by Kehlani, reportedly exchanged between her and Javaughn Young-White, it can be seen that a 50-year-old spiritual reader told the singer that her daughter was her “wife” from a past life when they belonged to South America. The former couple even seemingly admitted how “funny” and “wild” the reading was, then decided to be "skeptical" of such things.
Kehlani and Javaughn Young-White welcomed their first child Adeya in March 2019 after dating for over a year. While they split soon after their daughter’s birth, they continued to be co-parents.
In July 2024, Javaughn filed for full custody of Adeya, citing Kehlani as a negligent parent who often reportedly faltered regarding the “upbringing” of their child. Back then, the California singer denied the allegations and hit back at her former partner. Subsequently, in August, Young-White apologized for the “language” used in the filing and claimed they were submitted without his “approval.”
Notably, in 2020, the Crash singer became a member of the African diasporic religious community La Regla de Ocha. However, since the allegations emerged against her a few months back, she has claimed that she was no longer associated with the community.
